Alexandro A. Poccia, 82, of New Middletown, Ohio passed away Monday afternoon, Jan. 11, 2010, with his loving family by his side.

He was born June 4, 1927 in Youngstown, Ohio the son of Antonio and Carmel (DeChalk) Poccia and was a lifelong area resident of the Mahoning Valley.

He was a mill recorder at Republic Steel in Youngstown, where he retired from after 30 years of service.
He was the owner and operator of Al’s Pizza Shop on Indianola Ave. across from Wilson High School, for over 25 years and he enjoyed making pizza for the many students on their lunch breaks, and after school.

He was a 1946 graduate of East High School.


Alexandro enjoyed many things in his life, especially the dinners he had once a month with his brother and sisters. He enjoyed going to the Four Seasons Flea Market, along with dancing, cooking, baking, and watching cooking shows on television. He was skilled in woodworking and remodeling, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.


His wife, Anne Elizabeth Zalac, whom he married Sept. 4, 1954, died Aug. 5, 1970.

He leaves behind to hold on to his memories two daughters, Deborah Klim (Tim Deal) of New Middletown and Toni Ann Chillock of Poland, Ohio; a brother, Nicholas Poccia of Liberty; four sisters, Clotilda Comichesto of Girard, Ohio; Justine Delillo of New Castle, Pa., Mariann (Ernest) Barker of Austintown, Ohio and Pauline Patrick of Poland, Ohio; three grandchildren, Jessica (Jeffrey) Dellinger of Columbus, and Andrea M. and Justin L. Bovo of Poland; numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call today, Jan. 13, 2010, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at 10 a.m. at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Youngstown

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery
