Hello Scott, I might be able to help. My grandmother was Mary Zelma/Poague/Smith. She was born in Elmore county, in the FleaHop,Tallassee area. She was born to Samual Tilton and Dosia /Wallace/Poague. He was born to Alfred Clark Poage and Mary Jane /Wall/Poage.The Poages arefrom Ireland. It was told to me by my mother that when Samual Tilton enlisted in the Army they changed his name because it was not spelled correctly and he left it that way. The Family was not happy about it but he still left it that way. If I can help in any other way let me know. I've been looking for Family down that way.
