Poage Reunion?

Poage Reunion?

Does anyone know if there is a Poage reunion? There must be thousands (or even millions!) of us. I am descended from Robert Poage, Jr & Jane/Jean Wallace through their daughter Sarah Poage's marriage to Nathan Scott then through the McCulley line. I live in New Orleans.

Cathy,

I don't know of any organized Poage reunion, but it sounds like a great idea!

Also, an idea place to have one would be in Staunton, VA.
I don't know if that city could handle "millions" of people though:)

Apparently there's a sort of annual gathering at Ashland, KY in the fall. Ashland is even more appropriate, as it was previously known as Poage's Landing. The festival is called Poage's Landing Days and this year the dates are Sept 17-19. I have not been. Someone posted to the Poage board on genforum.com about it last year.

There was a Poage family reunion last year. This year is the 150th anniversary of the incorporation of Ashland. There is a weeklong celebration going on. Their convention and visitor's bureau lists it on their calendar.

Has anyone reading been to the festival, ever? Anyone interested in trying to make an effort to go this year? I got to pass by Ashland on the interstate a month ago, but could not stop at the time. I've been to Staunton, VA, and was sort of in awe standing at the grave of Robert and Elizabeth, my 7th great grandparents! I would be really interested in going to the festival if there was going to be a Poage reunion again!

Hi Melinda,

Getting to meet in Ashland would be great. I have read about the festival going on there in September, but doubt if I could stay the whole week. Hopefully others will see your posting and we might get some people interested in going for Poage's Landing Days part of the festival.

I have been to Staunton, but didn't get a chance to see the graves of Robert and Elizabeth Poage while there. We were caught in the hurricane Hugo, and had to leave before getting to see them. I would have also like to have seen the Robert Poage home near Staunton.

I also have been to Stauton. Saw the house and cemetery and stone. Have great pictures of the house and stone, also
the Old Stone Church. Guess I should put them on the Poage line as several ask for them a few years ago and have
others asking again.
I descend through William and Anne Kennedy Wilson Poage
to Martha and James Hanna and then Margaret Hanna and
Thomas Ellis.
Is it possible to put them on the roots web line?

Hello Iris,

Putting those pictures somewhere for all to share would be great, so many could benefit from them that are linked to the Poage line.

I am not sure if Rootsweb allows pictures in their online trees though, you would have to check with them on that.

I know you can on MyFamily.com, as I belong to a few of those private websites where all can join in on placing pictures and trees on the site. I do believe they are charging for that webspace now though, but maybe several of us could all chip in on getting one started.

Something to think about...

HI Nancy:

I am going to try to make it to Ashland in September.
Will bring copies of the pictures so some can copy for
others. I live in central IL so it is not too far for me.Also
have a niece just south of Nashville.
I am sure several have been to Stauton over the years.
We were lucky to be at the Church just as they were finishing
a picnic lunch.
A fellow and a lady form the Church took us around to see
John Poage's house, that has and still is in the Poage
family. The cemetery and the home of Robert and Elizabeth.
I descend through their son William and Anne Kennedy Wilson.

Hello Iris,

I would really love to attend that reunion this fall in Ashland but just doubt if I can this time. Hopefully there may another one sometime when I can.

I am sure there will be many there to share your pictures with , and you are lucky to be able to go.

I have been trying to find a picture of Margaret Terrell Poage, that married Nathaniel Hamlin. Margaret was the daughter of Allen Poage and Margaret Terrell. We have pictures of Margaret when she was a lot older, but if anyone out there might have one of her when younger that would be great, and please do get in touch with me.

Maybe you could ask around at the reunion Iris.

I have a sister that still lives in Randolph County, IL.
