I'm not really sure if we are talking about the same James Pogue, since they have different middle initials, but they seem to be very similar history..... This some research my uncle did on my family history.

James P. Pogue (son of Emily ?) was born 1828 in Georgia, and died date unknown. He married Elizabeth ? on Abt. 1849 in Georgia.
Includes NotesNotes for James P. Pogue:
Since their ages were 32 and 30 in the 1860 census, believe that Alfred was their first born, which would place their marriage around late 1849 to sometime in 1850, and probably in Georgia. A search for James P Pogue did not turn up a Pogue family with the wife named Emily, nor with a son named James P. At age 22 (in 1850) James P may not have been living at home; but no record was found at all.No record could be found of the family after 1860.Because of the Civil War, possibility exists that James P. Pogue was killed during the war (most likely Confederate. Elizabeth may have taken the children to live elsewhere. She may have remarried.
Burial: July 12, 1860, Census Gunterville Pg 876 Family 593.
Fact 2: Farmer.
Marriage: Abt. 1849, Georgia.
Children of James P. Pogue and Elizabeth ? are:
i.Alfred W Pogue, b. 1852, Georgia, d. date unknown.
ii.+Martha J Pogue, b. 1854, Alabama, d. date unknown.
iii.+Adelaid H Pogue, b. 1852, Georgia, d. date unknown.
iv.+Mary Frances Pogue, b. October 16, 1857, Marshall County, Al, d. December 28, 1932, Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. She married William Rylie Hinshaw on June 07, 1877 in Jackson Country, Al, son of Thomas Hinshaw.

Mary Frances Pogue is my great, great grandmother.
