Jacob Plemm, Plimm, Plim, etc. Pennsylvania, 1700's
Jacob's surname was recorded as Plemm when he married Barbara Rotin in Philadelphia in 1738. At various times after he settled in northern Bucks County the name was written as Plimm, Plim, Blim, Bleme, Bleem, Bleame, Bleam, Bliem, Bleim, or Blehm.
It's often assumed that Jacob was German in origin and was related to the Bliems of neighboring Montgomery County, but I'm not convinced of this. It seems as though the Plemm/Plimm/Plim forms were the earliest, followed in the later 1700's by Blim/Bleme/Bleem/Bleam. The more German-like variants don't show up until the early 1800's.
I'm looking for any clue as to where Jacob might have come from.

Re: Jacob Plemm, Plimm, Plim, etc. Pennsylvania, 1700's
Wow, it's sure been a while since I posted about this -- and the question is not for my family but for a friend, so I'm having to figure out from my notes what I was after. Maybe you can help, though.
My friend is descended from George Bleam of Upper Bucks County, who was born in Springfield Township in 1846 and by the 1870's had moved to Quakertown (where he and several other Bleams were founding members of the Quakertown Band.)
Georges Bleam's parents were George (b. 1806/07) and Catherine (b. 1812/13), but that's as far back as I've been able to trace the line -- though the 1810 census does show a George Bleem in Springfield Twp. who might take it back one more generation.
Jacob Bliem/Bleam looks like a possible ancestor -- maybe that oldest George's grandfather? -- but at least when I was looking around five years ago, I couldn't find anything that would establish a connection. Do you have information on Jacob's grandchildren that might match up?

Re: Jacob Plemm, Plimm, Plim, etc. Pennsylvania, 1700's
Jacob Blimm had three children: Mary, John, and Catherine. John was born about 1735/36 d. 1824 (I think he married Ann Shelly) They had... Jacob, George, John, Henry, Samuel, Elizabeth, Anna, Abraham, Peter. My husbands line goes through Samuel to John to Henry to Levi to Clayton, his grandfather. They all lived in the Quakertown area. The line you are researching is going to be through one of the other sons. No George in our direct line but my guess is that George, John's son might have had a grandson, George. There are Blimms/in the Palatine area in Germany listed as mennonites and my guess is that Jacob Plimm is a grandson of a Johannes Bluem in Spiesheim 1685. Even before this "I think" they were Swiss as many Palatinates fled persecution. They fled for as many as 100 years before they came to America.

Re: Jacob Plemm, Plimm, Plim, etc. Pennsylvania, 1700's
Hi Karen. I have been reading your posts and checked your tree. I am a descendant of Henry Beidler and Maria Bleam. I am noting that you have birth and death dates for them as well as for Jacob Bleam. Can you tell me your source for the dates? Have you found an burial information? I am assuming they are buried at East Swamp Mennonite. Also your source of info regarding place of birth for Jacob. PS. I have found the homestead of Henry Beidler (from father John) in Richland Township. This Beidler line is my main line. I grew up in Haycock. I didn't know my Beidler roots were in Shelly. I haven't started my Beidler tree yet but I plan to work on it soon. Eva
