Hi Euan,
I am a great great grandaughter of Charles Pluck. My great grandfather was Leonard Thomas Pluck, my grandfather Sidney Albert Pluck, my dad is David Lindsay Colquhoun (Pluck). My parents migrated to Melbounre 45 years ago, I am the eldest of four girls and I have a daughter, 3 nephews and 4 nieces. We all currently reside in Melbourne and surrounding suburbs. I do have a photo of Leonard Thomas and is wife Mary, if you would like to see it.
Would love to know more about Charles, to complete more research.

Because I had a reply to Euan on this thread your post was sent to me too. I am a great grandaughter of Charlie and Caroline Pluck. My Grandfather was Henry James (Jim) Pluck Sarah's 2nd to youngest brother. There was 20 years between them. My father was Pop's youngest son Allan Thomas Pluck.
I am 56 Years old and live just outside Te Aroha in the Waikato with my husband on our farm. We have 2 children all grown up now. I have been researching my family tree for about 2 years now and I am continually astonished by what I find out.

My name is Wayne Tahi Capper, i am also a straight descendant of Charles Pluck. Sarah Ann Pluck is my Great Great Grandmother and i am a descendant through the 'Church' family, her partner Henry Church. Henry & Sarah Ann's son Charlie moved to Auckland and had my Grandfather Noel Robert Church who was an All Black trialist. He in turn had my mum who is Faye Church who resides in New Plymouth, Taranaki where I was raised. I have worked in the mining and offshore industry all over New Zealand and Australia since the age of 16 and now reside in Bunbury, Western Australia. I am married to Arianna and we have 7 children. My grandfather passed away a couple of years ago.

Great to see the family connections, and I would love to make it over that part of New Zealand at some stage, I heard its lovely.

Anyway would love to hear from any family.

I have just found this website and your email. I too am a great grandaughter of Charlie Pluck and Caroline Pratt. My grandfather was Henry James (Jim) Pluck and my father was Allan Thomas Pluck (he died last year in August). I have been researching the family for about 18months now and have found some very interesting information but some of comes to a dead end.
Did you ever live in Waihi as a school boy? If you are who I think you are you went to Waihi College in the 1950's. Please let me know if it is you because we lived in Waihi for 14 years and both of my children went to Waihi College.

I've done extensive research on the Plucks in Ireland, and have the family of Miles Pluck b. 1828 County Wicklow, he was the oldest of 13 children, and I have his parents. I also have two of his father's siblings, and other family members. If you're still intersted, please let me know.

This is probably a bit late now but I have just come across this thread. My maiden name is Pluck and I have typed out a copy of a document I have from the historical research centre outlining the origins of the surname Pluck.
It is on my family tree "Pluck Family Tree."

My branch of the family have lived in New Zealand since 1873
and I have found out a lot about the Plucks' since I have been researching my roots.

I just replied to Angela about the two William Plucks from Glasgow, I have information on them, going back to Ireland, if you're interested let me know. The elder William Pluck was baptised 09 April 1848, Parish of Booterstown Blackrock & Dundrum (RC), County Dublin, Ireland. He was the son of James Pluck & Catherine Brennan. I don't know at what point he went to Scotland but he was married there to Mary Anne Wilson also of Ireland on 30 Jun 1874, and I have the marriage information, as well as the children. I didn't follow them after that, but should be a good start, at least.

I don't know what information you have already, but I have quite a lot. I will share whatever I have if you're interested.

I know about William Pluck born about 1878 in Glasgow. He was age 3 years in the 1881 Census of Scotland, with a brother James age 5, and John age 2 years. They were the children of William Pluck and Mary Anne Wilson, both from Ireland. I have the marriage of William & Mary Anne in Scotland, and the family of William back in Ireland. I have a lot of information on that family, and am in contact with a relative of William's in Australia. His grandfather was a 1st cousin to William Pluck b. 1878 in Glasgow, whose father went to Scotland. Some of the family stayed in Ireland, others, went to Australia.
These Plucks may have originally come from Normandy in France, but if so it was at the time of William the Conqueror, I think about 1066 AD.

The Plucks of Ireland were in Ireland, in Co Wicklow and in Co Dublin for several centuries, and I have several lines traced back to the 1700s, including my own.
I can send you more information if you're interested.

Hi there, I'm married to Michael Pluck and I have been researching the family tree for a few years. You may not have seen it yet but there is a very interesting website with lots of helpful info about the various branches of the family. Check out www.pluckrose.org.uk The family name shrank to Pluck from Pluckrose in the Cambridge area in the early 1600s. My husband is descended from a line of Plucks in another part of London. Really interested to see your post. Samuel was my great great grandfather. His son, Walter my great grandfather, owned a trimmings manufacturing business in Dalston, East London, and had a family reputation for being a pretty unpleasant type - at least to his children!! My grandfather, Albert, and his brother loosened the wheel of Walter's carriage in the hope it would crash and kill him. Albert then ran off to join the army! Walter had a large town house in Dalston, where his family lived, and another house in Langdon Hills, Essex, where he kept his mistresses and eight Borzoi dogs, which he allegedly fed on porridge.

Let me know if you would like me to send you what I have as far back as Samuel and his wife, Emma Lambert.

My Great Grandfather was Michael Joseph Patrick Pluck who married an Ellen D'arcy.
There children were Mary Agnes, Kathleen Veronica who was my Grandmother and Micheal. They also had another daughter Genie who died young.
They were from Ireland but I know that Michael was born in Huddersfield.
Do these names ring any bells, also could you tell me what connection you have.

I do not know if it is any help , but as Pluck is a fairly unusual name..my grandmother was "nellie" pluck ?? an abbreviation, there was a daughter who died, I believe young called Kathleen?? unfortunately my grandfather's name was unknown...my uncles..whom I have never met there were many..all had the names you have mentioned. Do you think you are a relation to them?

I am the great granddaughter of Ellen Pluck the younger sister of Charles Pluck. She was born in 1852 and married Samuel Bunn. They lived all their lives in the Kensal Rise/Green area of London and their daughter Florence (my grandmother born in 1879) and her husband (Frederick Masters)ran the florists shop at the entrance to Kensal Green cemetry. My uncle, also Fred, continued to run the shop until 1977. Any information on Charles Pluck and Ann Smith would be gratefully received.

My family have being tracing the family tree since the 1960s .
My Grandmother was Suzie Pluck ,she would have been a cousin of your
relation.
Joseph Pluck was her father and his sister was Elizabeth Pluck who married
Michael Hughes.
My cousin Susan Parkin has been on to me in the past couple of years trying
to find out about the history as she did not know much as I on the other
hand had the family tree through years of research through my mother and
grandmother Suzie who died in 1977.
My mother Laura Kane died in 2002 and now I have taken on the next leg of
the journey.
I have contacted Jane Lisbeth in past through another cousin of mine called

I am particularly interested in the information you have regarding Garret

Do you have any documents on this ie birth cert if not where did you get the

Richard lived with Elizabeth Hughes until he died and he is buried with
Garreth in Deansgrange cematary.

one of them was called Aunt Paul ,Do you know what one she is in your
group,I Have a photo of her ,I did not receive it until after my mothers

We have been in touch before,then Bernie contacted me. There is one missing from Joseph and Ann (McCabe) that is Ann (mams) she went to live in Liverpool and I believe died about her 100th birthday. We often met her, we went to liverpool and she came to us in Derby. My mum was her niece (Susans daughter.

I am very grateful for all the info I have received, Bernie has been wonderful.

Hi Joseph Pluck and Ann McCabe were my Gt Grandparents. Their daughter Susan was my Granny and my mum was Mary (Monica) her daughter.

I find this all so fascinating. I am stll delving into family history and there are so many Plucks. My Gt Gt Grandparents were Garrett and Mary Ann Brown.
Not sure of all their siblings though.

My Grandmother's Father was Michael Hughes. He was born in Hollyhead I believe. His wife was Elizabeth Pluck from Clarence St Dunlaoghaire, Ireland. Elizabeth's Father was Joseph Pluck and her Mother's name was Annie Mc Cabe. I believe she came from Glasthule.Elizabeth was born about 1861 Her Father was Garrett Pluck and her Mother was Mary Kate.My Grandmother was Anne Hughes who Married Patrick Farrell. They all livesd in Dunlaoighre.
My Dad was Michael Farrell.

Pascal Farrell died August this year at the age of 77.I have information on the others including Garrett Hughes, Susan Hughes & Patrick Farrell.Uncle Michael was a favorite brother of my mam. Garett Pluck b. 1831 Co. Wicklow (1901 Census listed as father of head of the family living in Dun Laoghaire back when it was called Kingstown)
m. Mary Kate (I had no last name and Kate for middle name) b. Glasthule, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin

Children: Elizabeth Kate b. 1861, Richard b. 1868, Mary Kate, Joseph, Mary Anne, Anne b. 1874

I show this is Joseph m. to Ann McCabe

I only have 8 children for them. Susan, Gerald, John, Joseph, Patrick Joseph, Elizabeth, James and Mary Kate. I have a little more on this family, mostly Gerald's family.

My line goes through
Elizabeth Kate
m. 1 Jan 1881 to Michael Hughes Jr. b. 1860
Children: Richard, Winnifred, Susan, John, Garrett, Michael, Anne, Margaret (maybe others).

Anne m. 1913 to Patrick Farrell b. 1888
Children: Michael Garrett, Gerald Joseph, Margaret, Pascal, Anne, Sheila, Winifred, Richard, Kathleen, Thomas, Patrick.

Michael Garrett is my wife's grandfather. I have more details on several of these people if you are interested.

Hi my Gt Gt Grandfather was a Garret Pluck, he married a Mary/Marie Ann Brown in DunLaoghaire. They had my Gt Grandfather Joseph who married a Ann McCabe, they had 9 children including my Granny Susan who married a Christopher Byrne in 1911.

I do not know if Garrett and Marie/Mary had any more children, Im sure they will have had.

Hi, my husband's grandma was Sarah Pluck... she came from Mansfield, Ohio. I believe her grandfather was from Pa. though. It's been a few years since I posted that query....:-) I'll have to go back and look at my files for his family...

It was good to hear from you. I have your grandmother in my tree as Alice Amelia Appleby who married Charles Attwood in 1895. That's as far down I can go with descendants of Ann Pluck and John Appleby.

John Appleby is my 3rd great granduncle, the brother of Thomas William Appleby who is my 3rd great grandfather.

John is the son of John Appleby (b. before 29 Jul 1774 in Coventry, Warwick, England; d. 1851 in Iowa). He was married 25 Sep 1795 to Susannah Hanson (b. 1779 in Bethnal Green, London, England). They had six children that I know of: John, Thomas William, William Henry, Susanna, James, and Samuel.

John (b. 1774) is the son of Samuel Appleby (b. 1775 in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, England, d. 2 Feb 1845) who married 19 Sep 1773 to Mary Fern (b. Jul 1749). John (1774) is the only child that I know of.

Samuel (1775) is the son of John Appleby (b. bef. 19 Mar 1726 in Ipstones, Staffordhire, England, d. 22 Jan 1805) John married 24 Apr 1755 to Sarah Garland. Samuel (1775) is the only child that I know of.

John (1726) is the son of another John Appleby (b. bef 20 Jan 1704). John married 8 Nov 1726 to Ann(e) Tugby. John (1726) is the only child that I know of.

I can go back from there a few more parental generations with John Appleby & Ann King, William Appleby, Jr. & Anne Simpson, and a William Appleby, Sr. (wife unknown).

If you give me your email address, I could send you a descendancy list from William Sr. on down to my side of the family.

I am descended via their son Samuel, who was an orris weaver like his father (and then his daughter Alice, my grandmother. I have been unable to trace the Appleby's beyond John.
