I am looking for Plochs in the Evansville, Vanderburgh Co. In area. My grandfather and his brother, Martin and George Felthaus lived with the Plochs after their mother, Mary Catherine Kapps Felthaus died in 1891. I believe the Plochs were related to their mother through a step sister, as I think Mary was the only child to survive.

Do you know any of the first names of the Ploch family you are looking for? My Ploch or Plock relatives were from Perry County, Indiana with some living in Evansville and Louisville.

Hi Bill, I am on vacation now and do not have access to my genealogy, but this is what I can remember. Mary Felthaus/Feldhaus married Joseph Ploch/Plochg/Plock in Evansville. They had quite a few children, including a Joseph, John and possible William. My ggrandparents died young, and Joseph and Mary took in Mary's 2 nephews, my grandfather, Martin and his brother George Felthaus. Mary was sister to Martin and George's father, Herman Felthaus. I have quite a bit on the Plochs at home, but do not have access to that info here. I have found some Plocks in Kentucky and my dad remembers visiting the Plochs in Henderson KY. I have seen obits for the Plochs that mention George as a cousin. I am sure that there is a connection, but until I get home March 10, I cannot give you more specifics. Judy

Thanks Judy. I look forward to hearing more from you. Bill

I reread my original message, and realized that since I wrote it, I had found the marriage info for Mary Felthaus and Joseph Plochg and that my original assumption was incorrect. Also I got Mary and Herman's parents from Mary and Joseph's church records. In case you are interested, their parents were Martin Felthaus and Gertrude (I don't recall, but have it at home.) Also either their son Joseph or John was named as a middle name, Herman after Mary's brother. Are any of these names familiar? Hope we can connect. My grandfather, Martin, moved to Michigan to work in the auto plants, while his brother, George remained in Posey County, where he died about 1954 without issue, so my father and his brother inherited the farm that Uncle George had. I just sold the farm when my parents died 5 years ago, so I am somewhat familiar with the area. Judy

My mother is a Ploch from Evansville, IN. Her parents are James Cantrell Ploch (b. 27 July 1923 in Henderson, KY; d. 27 February 1991 in Las Vegas, NV) and Betty Ann Detroy (b. 20 April 1923 in Evansville, IN). James' parents are Robert Joseph Ploch (b. 30 March 1895 in Henderson, KY; d. 30 September 1979 in Evansville, IN) and Edythe Virginia Coley (b. 8 April 1903 in Webster Co. KY; d. 26 March 1972 in Evansville, IN). For Robert's parents, I have listed J. Bernard Ploch (b. 1860 in Henderson, KY; d. 1904 in Henderson, KY) and Emma Helena ? (b. 1859 in Henderson, KY; d. 1939 in Henderson, KY). Does this fit with your information?

Dear Melissa, or should I say Cousin, I have found out much since I first posted the message. I believe Bill is also connected but do not know how. All my information comes from Holy Trinity Church records and Death records, so it is documented. This is what I have: Theordore Plohg m Margaret Wolf ( I think both were probably born in Germany but have no documentation) I only copied one son Joseph Plohg b abt 1831 in ? m Maria Feldhaus/Felthaus in 1860 in Evansville, Vanderburgh Co. IN. Maria's parents were Martin Felthaus & Gertude Greati. Maria had at least one brother Herman, my ggrandfather. Herman married Mary Catherine Kapps, and both died young. My father and grandfather always spoke of the "Plocks" as having raised my grandfather Martin Felthaus and his brother George Felthaus, after the death of their parents. I had presumed it was Mary Catherine's step sister, but I have found proof, that it was Herman's sister. In fact in a death record, George was listed as a cousin. Anyway, Joseph & Maria had the following children: John Bernard m Emma H. Birchler. I will send the other info to you directly, as it is very long. Thank you so much for filling in some blank places, and I can help you also. Judy

My mother started doing some of this research a few years ago because they were living in Germany and thought it would be fun to see if she could find out more information, but didn't get too far. I believe she has a passport with the name Gerhard Joseph Plongl on it. I have the city of Haselunne listed, but I don't know what that corresponds to. The birth date I have listed for Gerhard is 25 April 1831. I think, although I am not certain, that he changed his name to Joseph Plochy upon arriving in the states. Someone in the Ploch line was also a barrel maker (I believe it's officially called a cooper) because my mother has a bunch of old tools used in making barrels, but I do not know which Ploch it is. You may e-mail me at melissarasmussen@att.net and we can exchange more information. I will talk to my mother and see if she can fill in anymore gaps, as well.

Melissa, did you get my private email with the attachment? I have not directly researched all the Plogh/Ploch/Plock/Plohg's but only as a side to my Felthaus connection. You may want to go to the http://browning.evcpl.lib.in.us/ website. I got much information there. Also the Catholic church records in Vanderburgh Co. are a gold mine. Also there are many Wolfs in these records. I found that Margaret Wolf, was Joseph's mother, so I am sure you can find some info on that family also in these records. Let me know if you got the attachment, and what you can add. It is so nice to meet a Ploch descendant, as my grandparents and father talked often of the Plochs. Thanks again, for filling in some missing info. Judy I remember seeing an old picture of a man in a casket, and we felt that he was probably related to the Plochs. I will see what I can find in my pictures, as I am an only child and inherited all the family pictures. There were many unidentified pictures, but nothing I can say are pictures of Joseph or Maria Felthaus Ploch or their childen.
