Hello Everyone,

The viruses that have been hitting the internet in the past week, are
creating havoc for everyone including the mailing lists at rootsweb. Some of the culprits are the KLEZ worm, and the W32.SoBig.f@mm virus worm. The "Sobig" worm, also known as W32.Sobig.f@mm, is a malicious program circulating on the Internet and it is the fastest worm ever. MessageLabs Inc., which scans e-mail for viruses, said that within 24 hours it had
scanned more than 1 million copies of the ''F'' variant of the ''Sobig'' virus.

If your computer becomes infected with the worm, an unauthorized person can
remotely download and run programs on your computer, stealing confidential
information from you, or use your computer to send spam. The worm can infect Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, and XP. Macintosh operating systems are unaffected by this worm.

Please read the following tips to help you avoid having your computer contaminated:

BE CAREFUL!! DO NOT download any e-mail attachments, even from people you
know, with any of the following subject lines:

- Re: Details
- Re: Approved
- Re: Re: My details!
- Re: Thank you!
- Re: That movie
- Re: Wicked screensaver
- Re: Your application
- Thank you
- Your details

The e-mail attachment might have one of the following names:

- your_document.pif
- document_all.pif
- thank_you.pif
- your_details.pif
- document_9446.pif
- application.pif
- wicked_scr.scr
- movie0045.pif

DO NOT download ANY attachments from any e-mail that ~appears~ to come from rootsweb.com or any e-mail addresses that you have seen in your mailbox from our mailing list. While virus attachments ~CANNOT~ come through the rootsweb mail server, a list subscriber whose computer is infected, could be sending out the virus to other list subscribers if he has communicated with that subscriber privately.

If you have your e-mail program set to open attachments automatically when
you open your e-mail, change your settings IMMEDIATELY.

Update your anti-virus software with the latest virus definition file from
your vendor and run a scan of all the files on your hard drive.
