Hi, I am 14 and looking for relatives that live in Hawaii. I will be taking a trip to the islands in April 2003 and I would love to get in touch with relatives it. I am related to Anthony Placido(My Great Grandfather), Georgina Mello Placido Silva( My Great Great Grandmother), Manuel Placido(My Great Great Grandfather).
The story goes, Georgina and Manuel came over on a ship from the Azores they were stopped off the coast of Brazil(their desired destination) due to a revolution going on in the country at the time. The captain told them, they could have a boat and risk rowing to shore, or they could continue on to Hawaii with the ship. They chose to stay aboard and thus ended up settling in Hawaii.
If you have any information please contact me.

Hi Maya,

My name is Pam. Are you sure your great-grandfather's name was Anthony? Could it have been Antonio or Antone? My great-grandfather was Antonio Pacheco Placido. I don't know who his parents were but they came from the Azores to Hawaii. I don't know if Antonio came with them as a child or if he grew up in the Azores and came to Hawaii as an adult. We're still trying to figure that out. Do you know the names of any other ancestors? I know who he married and the names of their children. That would tell us if we're from the same family. I still have family in Hawaii, too. In fact, I went there last summer. Feel free to e-mail me directly. If we're part of the same family, I'd love to share more with you.

Hello. It looks like there are a lot of us out there turning up information. I had a major breakthrough of info recently. Georgina __________ Placido Silva Mello was married to Manuel Silva Mello. As per the 1920 Census - listed are Joaquin Mello, Frank Mello, Adeline Mello, John Mello children of Georgina and Manuel S. - and also a grandson is listed - Albert Placido.

I also find Albert Placido in the 1930 Census living with Antone J. Olivera (Olveria) head of household, wife Marisa, and children George, Walter, Mildred and Evelyn in San Francisco, SF County - Albert is listed as a nephew. I assume of Marisa?

In the 1930 Census - I find Manuel Silva Mello -head of household - 61; Georgina -wife 61; Adeline - daughter 26; Agnes & Maria Newland - 7 & 6 -g-daughters; and next door I find Joaquin Silva Mello - 33; Rosalie, wife - 24; Joaquin Silva Mello, Jr. 3 and Elouise Mia 1. Manual arrived in Hawaii
in 1876 and Georgina arrived in 1886.

Does this link up with anyone? We are descended (my husband's family) from Georgina Placido -GGrandmother; Tony Placido-Grandfather. We respect the privacy of the family members not listed.

(Maya is my niece.)
