Surnames: Place, Lincoln
I would love to find others researching the Place surname from and in the Vermont area. I've been able to trace the line to the early 1800's in Canada.
There is a story that one of the Place men married an Algonquin indian - but I've not been able to verify, nor find which Place ancestor.
Another story is that one of the Place ancestors married into the Presidential Lincoln line, but I've not been able to find nor verify that either.
Please feel free to contact me so that we can exchange info :)

I'm a Place in VT but I can't help you since I'm not originally from here. I do get alot of 'Are you related to So and So Place?" So there are a few Places in Vermont besides me.

My great great grandmother was Senara Place and her father was Robert Place and mother Lucy Lincoln. They were from Hinesburg, VT. Senera married Burl Burt and they eventually moved to Westfield, MA where they died in their mid-80's.

Searching published trees I have found a tree that showed an "indian maiden" as the wife of one of the Place ancestors but there was no documentation.

If you are connected to my Place line, let me know and I can send you documentation that I have found. You can contact me through this message board or directly at burtnorm@yahoo.com.

I, too am researching the Place's up north here in VT, NH, and just over the VT line in Quebec, such as Derby. Have a look at my tree and see if it has anything you need.

I hope we can work together!

Hi,
There are many Place line in Vermont. A Thomas Place from Rhode Island settled in St.George/Hinesburg area. He had several sons-Roswell,Austin, Shadrach,Thomas,George,Augustus and ?Robert. Robert is the one who married a Lucy Lincoln from CT-cannot verify that it is Presidental line. other part of the problem is the original children of thomas named their children after their sibling so there are multiple roberts, roswells, Austins etc, On Familysearch.com is the probated of Thomas Place and his grandson Roswell Place, son of Robert and Lucy which may help some. Robert and Lucy had about 10 children;most of whom stayed in Vermont and married there;so far, in my research no Canadian connections-just Massachusetts to RI,CT and then VT. Hope this helps.
