Looking for information on Josef Pizinger

He is the first Pizinger in my family tree...my father's father's side. He was born in 1830 in Austria and immigrated to the US in 1879 from what I can find so far. I am looking for more information about him and his family.

Did you find out what part of the US did he settle in?? My grandfather James Pizinger settled in Hoisington, Ks. Died in 1923. I went to the Ellis Island Foundation website. Found (1) Frank Pizinger (31 years old) immigrated to the US 03 August,1894. My grandfather's brother was named Joe or Josef. I'm trying to find the family's bible. Please email me at edward.pizinger@verizon.net

I'm also researching the Pizinger family. My step-grandfather was Maurice Elmer Pizinger, son of James Pizinger. I'd be happy to share what I have. You can email me at cereza@kwilliams.org

Ed,

James Pizinger was my great-great grandfather! The information I have on him (I've been to both Hoisington and Olmitz visiting cemeteries) says he was born in Prague, had a twin brother, Thomas and they immigrated with their parents at the age of 9 months old. Joseph and Mary Pizinger were his parents as I'm sure you know! What did James die of? He was very young and I couldn't find any information on his death. I have been inside of what used to be his music and jewelry shop on Main Street in Hoisington back in 2010. You can still see his name on the front of the building and his 3x-great granddaughters got to play on the floor of that very same shop! Ironically, I have twins as well....they will be 6 next week.

I am actually IN the Czech Republic right now for school. I leave August 3rd but I am trying frantically to find information over here on the Pizinger family. I cannot find baptism, birth or marriage records on Josef/Joseph, Mary...or James Wenzeslaus Pizinger. I am going to try the National Archives in Prague. I am also going to visit a village called Všemyslice in South Bohemia where I found dozens of records on Pizingers/Pišinger families from the 1800s. Some were Catholic....some were Jewish....some also died in the Holocaust. I have been to the Terezin concentration camp near Prague and found 2 names on the memorial wall and another 8 or so on the website for the memorial. Several died in Auschwitz. I was very shocked and saddened to find that and see it. I don't know what the relation is, but I'm still researching.

Is there ANYTHING you know about your great-grandparents?? I am friends with your cousins Dave and Judy on Facebook (they are the grandchildren of James' youngest brother Charles) as well as a couple of Pizingers here in the Czech Republic. We have a Pizinger that is a Czech National...but works/lives in the Washington DC area...in the Czech Embassy!

I went to Temelin yesterday, which is where the Temelin Nuclear Power plant now sits. Why? The Pizinger family lost their farmland/home/trade in 1984 when the communist regime decided they were going to build a nuclear power plant in that same area. Their land was in the 2km radius deemed a "danger zone" and they were shoved out. The house wasn't demolished until 1998. I took quite a few pictures and a video that I took of the area. I walked over 7km between Temelin and another village looking for a cemetery that is said to have Pizinger graves in it. No luck.

Thank you for the information. As a matter of fact, I am in touch with the original poster...turns out she's my cousin (by marriage). Thanks, again. :)
