Well, this Pizer information gets more and more interesting and bigger and bigger.
Tina,I have seen your posts before and I still have not come across a connection but there must be one.
Michelle, you are connected but not in the way you thought. There are postings on the message boards from Lori. She has much information and could be a "pizer expert".
My mother is Anna L from the 1930 census and my grandfather was Thomas, born 1886, son of Nehemiah.
Here is what I know, all of which I have verified in US and England Censuses:
Peter Pizer b. about 1816married Elizabeth (unknown) in England. They lived in Kirkby N Ashfield in Nottingham, England.
They had the following children:
Arthur 1834
Nehemiah 1836
Lewis 1838
Hannah 1840
Mary 1843
Leo
Peter
I haven't been able to find much more on the younger 4.
Nehemiah married Jenny Craggs. They lived in England until about 1869. They had 7 children, their first 5 were born in England. They were:
Matthew 1856
Elizabeth 1858
Ann 1861
Nehemiah 1863

Thomas 1866
Arthur 1870
Eli 1875.

Michelle,
I believe Matthew is the Pizer you are descended from. He had a son Thomas W, born 1883 and one of his sons was Frank W, who had Nora. There is tree online that shows this.

Nehemiah, Matthew's younger brother, was my great grandfather. He had a son named Thomas as well. (my grandfather). They family lived in Venango County;

Tina, the other Pizers you have found, Adam, etc, must be connected as well but I don't know how. It would just be too coincidental that all these Pizers from England ended up in the same part of Pa.
My mother has said that when she was a little girl, she remembers her dad (Thomas) going to Chicago to visit cousins and look for work during the depression. We just don't know how they were connected.
I don't get enough time to follow up on all of this, but I periodically check back. Search the trees and you will lots of information.
(I actually have had the chance to meet Nehemiah's descendents, they meet yearly in Sandy Creek PA for lunch.
I take my mother and uncle who represent their father Thomas' family.

How interesting to learn that your ancestors went to Chicago. This is one of those puzzles that I keep getting out every so often and searching everything I can find. Then I get discouraged and put it away. It haunts me because I want to find my great-grandmother's family and why she had the name Pizer.

My folks still live in Oil City, Venango County, and I go home to see them every year. My mother doesn't remember much about great-grandmother Pizer. She apparently had a sister Jessie who lived in Union City (near Erie) but I haven't been able to find her either. I have information that the sister really was named Cora. She may have had the name Campbell, then Caldwell, and then Allen.

I've tracked down every name my mother has given me and not been able to find direct connections to great-grandma Pizer. She was a housekeeper and married Elmer Huff who died in 1919. In his will he even referred to her last name as Pizer. I've tracked down so many Pizers that I feel I'm related to the family in some way.

Mary was such a common name and Jacob Pizer did have a daughter Mary but I don't know much about her. If that Mary was my great-great-grandmother, Maty Jane Scott Parks, then I imagine that she wasn't married when she had my great-grandmother. Later she may have married a Scott and then a Parks.

My mother's oldest brother once told me that great-grandma's family moved to some place that was very warm and he thought they had orchards, like orange groves. I figure they may have moved to Florida or California but I haven't been able to find substantiate any of that story.

I guess we have to keep looking. I'll dig back into my records and see what I can find. Maybe with all of us holding small pieces of information, we can piece together the puzzle.

Tina,
This was a post from 1999. I responded but never heard back as I thought this Kathy may have been related to Arthur Pizer. I think the California part makes it interesting in light of what you shared. Good Luck

Hi Dave,
I've never looked into my family tree; did a search just for fun. My Pizers' were originally from Ireland (and are rumored to have come from Poland before that) Before ending up in California (as far as I know almost every one of my father, James Arthur's relatives are there) they were from Pennsylvania. My grandfather is Arthur James, and my grandmother is Helen Sweeney. All of them, including my father are deceased. I know I'm not helping much, but we Pizers are so rare, we need to stick together!

Regards, Kathy (aka Pize)

P.S. Any clue as to the origin of this name? The best guess is that it is a shortened version of a Polish name.

I was looking through this and seen the name Nehemiah Pizer, my Aunt just sent me some old family pictures, and my great great grandfather's name was Nehemiah Pizer I believe born in 1863, he was the father of my great grandfather Thomas Pizer. Then Thomas had a son named Thomas who is my grandfather. We must be realted. Your grandfather must be my Great grandfather. The picture I have is of LouEllen and Nehemiah Pizer.
