Lethia,

My grandmother was Julie Pizani(e) from Barataria. I have traced her family back through the sacramental records of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. At this time I can take them back to Pierre Pisany who immigrated to New Orleans from Provence, France. His father was Henri Pisani.

I have heard speculation, however, that the family name originates from Italy and indicates that they were from Piza.

Let me know if I can be of help.

Lethia,

It's good to hear from you. As I said, my grandmother was Julia Aurelia Pizanie Basse. She was the daughter of Onezime Pizanie and Marie Alice Belsome. Onezime was the child of James Pizani and Marie Melanie Belsome. James was the son of Andre Jacinto Pizani and Elizabeth Singer. Andre was the son of Pierre Pisany and Marie Christine Robin. Pierre is the first Pisany/Pizani to arrive from Europe. His marriage record indicates that his parents were "Anrri" (which I presume is Henri) Pizani and Magdalena D[ecu?]geau of Toulon. His death states that he was from Provence in France (which is the area of Toulon). This is all that I have been able to find at this time. But having done the research myself, I am sure of it.

Hope to hear from you again.

Suzi,

Can you give me any other information, i.e. approximate age or date of birth, parents, etc.
