I have been talking to my Aunt's and Uncles from the Piwowar side and I have learned that my Grandfathers parents spent time in PA as coal miner. I am not sure if he left PA for Detroit or if they did. His name was Joseph. Might of had brothers and sisters but I still do not know. If this helps any one who might be able to help me thank you .

Robert, do you know if your Joseph Piwowar had
any sisters? My grandfather was a coal miner in SW
PA. His name was John Piwowar (Pivovar to us). I understand
he had a sister Sophia, but I'm not sure of any
brothers. Do you know what village his family was from? John
came from Biesna.

Classification: Query
Hi Robert!
A quick search found Josef Piworvar (another variation of spelling) Ship Neckar, 1906 immigration. He is sponsored by his brother. Is this your grandfather? Also, The State Of PA has the mines indexed with immigrants/local names, job title, etc. The information is follows from Ellis Island.

First Name: Josef
Last Name: Piworvar
Ethnicity: Austria, Polish
Last Place of Residence: Jaslo, Galicy
Date of Arrival: Nov 01, 1905
Age at Arrival: 21y Gender: M Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: Neckar
Port of Departure: Bremen
Manifest Line Number: 0009

Contribution to name:
"Piwowar" is a Polish form of a last name;
Russian would be "Pivovarov", or the Polish spelling of the Russian last name would be
"Piwowarow". (The name means "beer brewer", by the way.)

The name "Piwowar" is common in south-central Poland [Krakow to the
west, Kielce to the north, Nowy Sacz to the south, Stalowa Wola to the
east]. Losie is just east of Nowy Sacz.
