Re: Pitcher/Betzer Connection
My name is Patrick "Pat" Stewart, I was born in Jefferson County, New York and now live in Tennessee. My great grandfather was Gabriel Pitcher. From extremely limited information his father was Henry and mother Anna/Emma (also a possiblility that mother was Abbagail Crosley). Children were Waldon/Waldren/Walron b. 1818; Gabriel b. 1822; James b. unk; Peter b. unk; John H. b. 20 Apr 1823, Arcadia, Wayne Co.; Betsey b. 26 Jan 1825, Arcadia, Wayne Co.; unnamed female b. 1825 (my note: poss stillborn or died shortly after birth). I realise this in response to an old post, but hope there may be a tie in. Thank you. Pat

Re: Pitcher/Betzer Connection
Sorry, but I don't recognize any of those names. My Pitcher family is descended from a German family, the Betchers, I think. Many of the other Pitchers were English. Betsy

Re: Pitcher/Betzer Connection
Betsey,
Thank you for the timely reply. I am hoping to hear from Mark Pitcher or mmcdono as what they posted had a more definite connection.
Thank you again.

Re: Pitcher/Betzer Connection
Mark, this is a reply to a very old post, I hope this is still an open thread. I come from a Pitcher family line through my mother, Orea Pauline Pitcher, daughter or Eugene Jewett Pitcher, son of Gabriel Pitcher. Gabriel's death certificate lists his father as Henry Pitcher and mother as Ann Secoy. My information on Henry is very sketchy possibly from Wayne County and was listed in the 1810 census as being in Jefferson County, NY (if he came to Jefferson County prior to 1805 it would have been part of Oneida County, served in the second battle of Sackets Harbor in 1813 (War of 1812) and was not listed in the 1820 census. Gabriel had at least one brother, Waldron who lived beside Gabriel until the 1870s when he disappeared. A Rose McDonnaugh (mmcdono371) was making inquiries about Gabriel/Waldron in the early 2000s. Is your Henrich and my Henry possibly the same? Pat Stewart Chapel Hill, TN

Re: Pitcher/Betzer Connection
Dear Pat, It has been some time since I was last on the message board and just saw your inquiry. I looked through all of my Pitcher's and could not find a Henry who had a son, Gabriel. I have found a number of my Pitcher's and pictures of their graves through the website for Wayne County New York Historian, Sodus. I am having to re construct my Family Tree, seem to have lost that file. I do have a hard copy of all the info concerning my family. I wish I could be of greater assistance. Mark

Re: Pitcher/Betzer Connection
I saw your post and I was wondering if you have come across a Horace Pitcher b. around 1795, wife Phebe Burnet/Pitcher also b. around 1795. They are my ggg grandparents, they were in Schoharie county, but I haven't been able to find Horace's parents or where he came from. I appreciate any help you could give or any info you may have, thank you Christine

Re: Pitcher/Betzer Connection
Rose (I assume this is Rose McDonough),
What a pleasant surprise to hear from you. I had tried to reply to postings you had made to the GENFORM and to Ancestry/Rootsweb Pitcher family forums back in the 2004 time period. This was around 2010 when I found your post. I believe you had been in contact with one of my nieces at that time, Kay Van Dorn, but that is another story.
My name is Patrick (Pat) Stewart, born in Watertown and raised in Jefferson County, NY. I spent 20 years in the United States Air Force and now live in Chapel Hill, TN about 40 miles south of Nashville.
I am the great grandson of Gabriel Pitcher and Orea Elvira Jewett Pitcher, Gabriel's second wife and the mother of all of his children. Gabriel's first wife was Olive Glass. Gabriel was born in 1822 at Watertown Center which is a village in the town of Watertown and just south of the city of Watertown which is the county seat of Jefferson County. Gabriel and Olive first rented a small farm in Theresa, Jefferson County, and later moved back to Watertown where he bought a small farm diagonally across the road from his brother Walden.
I have a Pitcher family genealogy paper that list Abbigail Crosby as Gabriel's mother. Does this name sound familiar to you?
You say you are descended from Walden. The only child that I have for Walden and his wife Catherine was Roxy. Are you descended from Frank and Roxy Pitcher Lane? The best that I can determine is that Walden disappeared. Do you have any information of what happened to him?
It does appear that Gabriel took responsibility for Walden's remaining family. Catherine is buried in the Gabriel Pitch family plot in Brookside Cemetery, Watertown Center. For a time when Roxy died she was interred also in the Gabriel Pitcher lot and then later was exhumed and reinterred in Frank Lane's plot. I have assumed that the Lane family was on hard times with Frank having lost a leg in a railroad yard accident in Watertown and when Roxy died did not have the means at that time to handle the funeral. I do have a photo of Catherine's tomb stone.
Gabriel eventually moved to just north of Adams Center, a village in the town of Adams where he died in 1904. Orea Elvira remarried to a Tom Bennett.
Gabriel's death certificate listed his father as Henry Pitcher and his mother as Anna Secoy Pitcher. Early Jefferson County history listed a Henry Pitcher in the Town of Watertown by 1804/1805, and a muster roll for a local militia unit listed a Henry Pitcher in March, 1813, at Sackets Harbor, two months before the Second Battle of Sackets Harbor on May 13, 1813. The muster roll also listed three Jewett family members in the same unit. I have also found the 1820 federal census for Henry Jewett but nothing after that.
I hope that this establishes we are of the same family and hope to hear further from you.
Pat Stewart
