New York Times, Sunday, July 23, 1916

Philadelphia, July 22. -- John Pitcairn, founder of the Swedenborgian settlement at Bryn Athyn and a millionaire Pittsburgh plate glass manufacturer, died at his home at the settlement today, in his seventy-sixth year. He was prominent all over the country as a leader in the New Church or Swedenborgians, and gave $750,000 for the building of the cathedral in Bryn Athyn. Mr. Pitcairn was identified with many Western Pennsylvania industries and made his home at Cairnwood, his estate at Bryn Athyn.

Having grown up in Bryn Athyn I am familiar with many of his descendants. Do you have more info on him or his family?

Sorry, but I only know the basics that most people know. The Pitcairn family is/was Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company. I believe there were two brothers from Scotland who started the company. A Mary Pitcairn lived in Monterey County, California in the 1920's. People thought she might be related somehow. I saw the obit when I was doing other research and thought someone might be interested. I am not related either.
