Thanks for your reply and information. Yes, I remember my grandmother mentioning San Martino. I'll have to check to see who exactly came from there. I thought Pisaniello originated in or near Pisa, however, because of the first four letters. Laura

Both my great grandparents came from Cervinera (Avellino Province).I was told that Pisaniello was broken apart upon arriving at Ellis Island. Since the officers there couldn't understand the immigrants they simply "respelled" all the names phonetically. I know of at least five variations of "Pisaniello" that are/were related back then. My own family..Pasinella..and my cousins..Pisanella... Pasinello.---Will be resuming my genealogy searches soon. Hope to find out more then.

By the time my grandmother came over here, she already was married and her name was Petecca, so I guess that's why the spelling wasn't changed. Is Pisaniello the original spelling then? Does it have anything to do with PIsa?

Nothing to do with Pisa, our origins are in S.Martino Valle Caudina and Cervinara, the exact spelling is PISANIELLO, I'm tryng to send, as attachment, a map including S. Martino.

I am trying to find dates of birth and death for my great great grandparents, Luigi Moscatiello and Anna Magnotta (Moscatiello) They were parents of Maria Moscatiello, my great grandmother, who was born July 13, 1863 and died in 1905 in Cervinara.

I am also trying to find dates for great great grandparents Gennaro Pisaniello and Maria Magnotta (Pisaniello) who were parents of Pelligrino Pisaniello. Pelligrino was born April 21, 1853 and died in 1936. They are also from Cervinara.

My goal is to obtain the names of their parents because this is as far back as my record goes.

If you could help me, I would be grateful.

Thank you,
Lisa

I was previously registered as Pisanelli in Brazil. My great imigrated to Brazil in 1892 and was registered as Pisanelli however when my Grand went back to Italy in 1982 he discovered that his relatives were Pisaniello and no Pisanelli. From them on My father and I changed our surnames back to Pisaniello however We don't know if there is any relation between the to surnames.
