STRUTHERS – Victor Pisani, 93, a longtime Struthers, Ohio (Mahoning County) resident, died May 27, 2013, in Poland, Ohio, surrounded by his family.
Born Oct. 5, 1919, in Youngstown, Ohio Victor was the fourth of seven children born to Ferdinando Pisani and Anna Lanotte Pisani, who emigrated from Italy in early 1900s.
In his early years in Youngstown, Victor was a YMCA lifeguard and member.
He was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Church.
Victor served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1938 to 1942.
During this time, he was stationed in Truckee, Calif. and the mountains of Idaho, leading a variety of construction and forestation projects.
Victor also served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman during World War II from 1942 to 1946.
He was active in the Philippines Campaign and Occupied Japan.
Victor also enjoyed participating in army boxing tournaments in his spare time.
Victor worked at the General Fireproofing Corporation in Youngstown for 35 years, retiring in 1981.
Victor enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching boxing and Cleveland Indian baseball.
He also relished the routine of getting his daily chili-dog and cup of coffee at St. Anthony’s Italian Club in Struthers, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Ronci Pisani; brothers Fred Pisani of Youngstown, Ohio and Ronald Pisani of Elkhart, Indiana and 5 sons, Victor (Barbara) of Mandeville, La., Richard (Mary Lou), of Poland, Ohio, James (Rhonda), of Huntington Beach, California, Gregory (Donna), of Katy, Texas and Edward (Noreen), of Garden Grove, Calif. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Antoinette (Pisani) Cannon of Long Beach, Calif., Roger Pisani of Laguna Hills, Calif., Louis Pisani of Fremont, Calif., and Almond Pisani of Visalia, California.
There will be calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2013, at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Youngstown.
Funeral services will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers.
Victor will be buried at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio where his dedicated service will be recognized with full military honors provided by the great men from V.F.W. Post No. 9571 of Ellsworth.
