My grandfather on my mother's side was Salvatore Piranio, married Bernarda Fruja both from Corleone and came to New York just after the turn of the century. My mom's name was Josephine, she had brothers James, John and Salvatore also a sister whose name I do not know. My Uncle Jim went to Corleone about 10-15 years ago for a visit and was very warmly welcomed, even thoough he had never had any previous contact with family there. I hope this info helps you.

Hi my name is Jamie Piranio. I was "googling" my last name and interestingly enough found this web site as well as your posting. I found your query very interesting. My grandparents are Mary and James Piranio. My Grandfather's family (James) comes from the town of Coreleone. Although I am unable to answer your question whether it is a popular name there, I can assure you that my family does come from there. Another interesting point is that my family is from New York, and immigrated from Coreleone to Harlem, New York around the early 1920s.

Hey "Uncle Frank", instead of looking for your relatives with the last name Piranio in Sicily maybe you should try looking for your relatives here in San Diego. We would like to have seen you at your brothers funeral.
Your forgotten niece in San Diego.

Hi Jamie,

I'm Chris's wife. Funny how the internet can get family members you don't know closer. . .
Chris's family on his dad's side moved to Harlem, NY from Corleone also in the 1920s. So maybe you guys are distant cousins. Who knows. Send him an email, and he will be quite happy, as he is in this moment losing his dad.

Epiranio,

Sorry to hear my brother died, but no one told me. I haven't heard from anyone, including your entire family, since my mother died. So please don't put the onus on me. I didn't know one of my brothers was dead, was dying, or that he had. (I do now) Obviously had he or anyone else in the Family wanted me to know he would have had someone notify me including you, your dad, mom, brother or any other Piranio family member. Had I known, or had I felt welcome by The Family I would have attended, had I known.
As for looking elsewhere for family members rather than San Diego why not look somewhere else. Not one brother (or sister) has made any effort, whatsoever, to contact me since my mother died, nor made any effort to learn why there was a disagreement between your aunt and me, nothing written, no phone calls NOTHING. So yes, I've gotten on with my life, and yes I regret that I haven't had any contact with many of you. I was under the impression that is what everyone wanted and expected of me. As you can see by this
I just happened onto this site again. I have not been looking for anyone since the initial posting.
Again please don't think me so callous that had I been aware of my brother's illness, or pending death I would not have made every effort to reconnect with him, despite what anyone might have said on done.
