I saw no Boston Pirainos on your registry and wish to enter the following: My grandfather Paolo and grandmother, Giovanna (nee LaMacchia) Piraino family moved from their large clan in Syracuse, NY to Boston's North End in the early 1920's, to successfully skipper his suddenly-deceased wife's brother's fishing boat. He and his crew died at sea about 18 years later. There were 10 in this Piraino family, but one died as an infant, leaving nine to grow and prosper, all raising their own families. Sadly, the youngest, born 1927, Joseph, died this past week. There is one remaining sibling. Grandfather Paolo immigrated from Messina with his parents in the late 1880's, I believe.

I am the grandson of Santo Piraino. My name is Keith Orlandella. There should be mention of the greatest Piraino of them all, Santo Piraino. It is observed that these are no easy shoes to fill with many great Pirainos; however, Santo, recently passed in April of 2010, lived to 100 years old. He helped so many and gave so much to the community and to his family and friends. He is the last recognized Chief of this storied clan. Santo Piraino: (12/26/1910-4/13/2010) Santo was the son of Paolo and Domenica LaMacchia. This may not be something to print in full, but, a small side note for you!
