My name is Eric August Piragnoli. Piragnoli is not a common name so when I see it I get very curious who the person is and if they are related to me. I see that Christina has passed I am very sorry for your loss. If you have a moment in the future to share information you may have on the Piragnoli family it would mean a great deal to me. My father passed when i was just 6 and I do not have much family history. I noticed that I am very close to Christinas age, I was born 1975 in Bronx, New York.

Hello Eric:
As you can see from my original post date, the obituary appeared on the Piragnoli board several years after appearing in the newspaper.
I am no longer posting any obits from this newspaper, as I was asked not to by a former publisher, now retired. He only gave me permission to copy the hyperlink to the surname board.
That retired publisher’s request, in effect, thwarted the whole purpose of my project, which was to preserve for future family tree historians any newspaper accounts of their family history that the obituaries would have provided. Any obituaries after 4/3/06 are lost forever due to a new policy by this newspaper. “Obituaries online 365 days. Guest Books online 30 days, unless sponsored.”
The retired publisher’s replacement never replied to an email on the subject of this type of preservation. He, too, is no longer with this newspaper. A copy of the mentioned email to the obituary clerk also went unanswered.
If you are interested in a timeline of the project (oldest obituary available: 1 July 1998), from beginning to holding date, please let me know.

Sincerely,
Glenn

Hello Glenn,

Thank you so much for your reply. I would love any and all information you may have for Piragnoli. Are you related in any way to the family or was this just a project for you? Either way I think it was a great idea.

Thanks again for the reply. I wish you and your family all the very best.

Sincerely,
Eric

Hello, Eric

I'm sorry I don't have any further information than what is in my original post of 21 Dec 2005. Yes, it was a huge project I thought of, but it was effectively cut short as noted in the following timeline. Some of the info in the timeline is repeated from one of the earlier posts in this thread.

In the meantime, HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Glenn
---------------------------------
TIMELINE FOR OBITUARY PROJECT
25 Nov 2005
Posted the first obituary available. The obituary appeared in the newspaper on 1 July 1998.
03 Mar 2006
Last obituary posted to message board. The obituary appeared in the newspaper on 3 Apr 1999
(There are 3 more obits for 3 Mar 1999 to be posted.)
3 Mar 2006
I got a reply asking if I had permission to post: That idea had never crossed my mind. So, I put my very large project on hold.
3 Apr 2006
“On Monday April 3, 2006 [newspaper] began using [company] for obituaries appearing in the online edition of [newspaper]. To view today’s obituaries….”

For obituaries prior to April 3, 2006….”
Once said newspaper became affiliated with their current obituary archives company, the obituaries are no longer permanent as they, along with the associated guest books, only remain online for one year. One exception: if a friend or relative is willing to pay a fee, the obituary may be made permanent.

Ancestry.com does have an “Obituary Collection”, but it only contains surnames and places.
17 Apr 2006
Last obituary in the local [Newspaper’s] archives.
Between March & September 2006
Sometime before he retired, the newspaper’s publisher gave me permission to link to the decedent’s obituary. In the meantime, [The newspaper] announced that obituaries would be time limited. (See above)
9/7/06
I mentioned the transitory problem above in an email to the new publisher. On 9/12, I forward a copy of that message to the obituary clerk. Neither of them has replied.
1/5/07
Finally found a message board reply (posted on March 4th). Although it doesn’t contain my original post, it mentions me. It’s on the [surname] message board at [web address]
(Probably part of the reason I couldn’t find it is that Ancestry has completely revamped the message boards.)
1/5/07
Yesterday and today I looked at the website, Obituary Daily Times. I copy-pasted from main page,
“You can then refer to the newspaper to get a copy of it (at the library or directly with the newspaper itself).”

(1/6/07 From the [Newspaper’s] home page > Obituaries
“Obituaries and Guest Books for January 06, 2007”
“All Obituaries posted after 3/22/2006 remain online 365 days. Guest Books remain online 30 days, unless sponsored.)”
April 1 – 17 are linked to their respective dates from Home > Obituary Archives > “For … click here>”)
I don’t know what’s supposed to happen for the obits between the 17th and 22nd.

This effectively thwarts my vision of having these obituaries available for such a time as when the decedent’s descendents (grandchildren or great grandchildren, for example) begin their interest in genealogy and family trees. (That’s why I chose Ancestry.com’s message board – under the impression that the postings are permanent.)
15 Mar 2007
Second publisher reassigned without ever answering my old request.

So, you see, I didn’t get very far.
