My husband Joseph Henry Whybrow is one of five children born in Southend-on-Sea to Laura Amelia Pipe. Laura was born in Hackney in 1889 one of 20 children of George Pipe and Caroline Martha Pipe nee Cooksley.

The siblings of Laura were George; Henry; Martha;Violet;
Jane; Virginia; Alfred; Walter; Lily; William [Willie] Edith, Florence [Florrie], Elizabeth, Ivy, and Edward. It is believed that there were also two sets of twins who died in infancy.

Does your tree tie in with this family and are you aware perhaps of the names of the two sets of twins who did not survive.

I see you have succeeded in getting back to John Pipe in 1795. I would be grateful if you could advise me if you have any success in your tracings.

Is there anything I could help you with? If so, please let me know.

Laura was my great Aunt, my garndmother was her sister Ivy Dorothy Pipe 1906-1938. Her daughter Eileen is still alive and she is my Mother's sister who was June Violet Pipe. Was Laura the medium in the family? Do get in touch.

Dear David,

Thank you for your reply. Jeannette has sent me a photo of you and others in the family when you met a year or two ago, so I can see you as I write !

I have found that your Grandmother's full names were Ivy Dorothy Charlotte Pipe. Is this correct?

Yes Laura was the medium of the family. We have her crystal ball upstairs and I have on loan from my sister-in-law Irene Amelia Manley [nee Whybrow - Laura's daughter] a photo album with photos of Laura with other ladies at a "meeting". Interesting isn't it. That proves you know what you are talking about !!

Eileen would now be about 71 which is not old nowadays.

I will try to scan the interesting photos in the album and keep them on computer. I hope then to send some to the Pipe family I have heard from. If you would like some, please let me know.

All the best.

Emily

That would be nice to see some photos I think most of ours were lost during the war. My Grandfather was Willam Ernest Pipe and I am twice descended from Emma Banks and Richard Pipe. My Mother June Violet died in 1970 and Dudley her brother about 20 years aggo. Eileen is the only one left. Do you know the whereabouts of Norman Howell he was my Mothers coucin and Eileen would like to find him. Elf had a daughter who we have never found, Irene Saunders Pipe was her name. Elf's wife was Lillian Saunders. We have cousins in Waltham Cross and these are from the Hackney Pipe's like us. I am 43 and was born in Norwich as thats where my parents lived. I moved to London when I was 9 after Mother died to live with Eileen.

My grandparents were not married we found out. William Pipe was married to another lady Kate Bell, she was put into an asylum before the first world war. George their son is still alive in Essex.

Do send some pics it would be nice to see, I think we have one of Florrie and maybe some others. I have never seen a photo of my grandfather as he died in 1947 from cancer, which is the same thing that has dogged his children. There is a deffective cancer gene in the family it has been studied at Addenbrooks Hospital. But not all branches have it. But it does seem to have come from Caroline Cooksley.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi again David

I am sorry to learn about Edward. Could you confirm when he was born please?

Was he one of twins? If not, then he is the 20th child of George Pipe and Caroline Martha Cooksley.

Thanks.

Emily

He was the youngest born in Axminster in about 1908. He was mariied 3 times Irene, Nell La Rue and Dorothy who died about 10 years ago. He lived in Enfield for most of his later life. My grandmother and he were very close, he lived with my grandparents at 52 Paragon Road, Hackney for a while. We have always called him Elf or Alf. He was not a very nice man and not generally liked. My Aunt Eileen keeps in touch via nurses as he does not know anyone any more. He does have two step sons, my godfather Lawrence and his brother Peter, Connie I have not seen for years. But as I said they are step children.

Dudley my Uncle lived in Rochford from 1941 till his death about 20 years ago. He worked for the GPO teleohones. His children my cousind are still there.Sharon is 43 and Ernie about 40 now. Grandad moved the family out of London in 1941 after the last big airraid on May 10th.They all lived in Rochford untill his death when Eileen was sent to live with other relatives. My Mother stayed in Rochford untill she joined the WRACS and then married my father. Uncle Dudley as I said died there in the 1980's
