I am a descendant of Jean Viau son of Michel and Marie Ulet born 9 March 1677 at St-Michel D'Ozillac near Jonzac eveche de Saintes, Saintonge (Charente-Maritime) arrived in Montreal around 1704 and married Francoise Prevost Nov 23rd 1711 in Montreal daughter of Jean and Francoise Leblanc. I have all the consequent marriages and children if you would need those.
My family immigrated from Montreal probably around the 1800's to Upper Canada. The family's name was Viau in France and they changed it to Janveau when they arrived in Canada. This family split up to find work and never kept in contact after the split up. My great-grandfather was a lumberjack on the Ottawa river and was somewhat of a folk hero as he fought and defeated big Joe Montferrand the strongest man in Upper Canada. Although there is a book in the National Archives about it I have never seen it.
I have found that the Jean Viau clan to be quite far reaching probably because many of them were voyageurs or lumberjacks. Please contact me if you have any futher info or need any.
