the oldest Pimentel I have been able to find was born around 1846 (Petra Pimentel y Cintron De Alvara) according to the US Census, she and her parents were from Puerto Rico. Thru family stories, I was told that they came to PR from another country, but I can't remember where.

My Grandmother was Juana Marrero y Pimentel (b) 1887/88 and 1910 census says she and parents (b) in P.R. In 1910 she lived in Fajardo East,Fajardo w/her common-law husband Brigido Ortiz y Rosello (b) in P.R. in 1873 to Antonia Rosello (b) in Mallorca (Spain) and husband Joaquin Ortiz (b) P.R. Juana and Brigido had been together 5 years in 1910 and had 5 kids w/3 living. The living kids were: 1.Rafael Ortiz y Marrero age 3: 2.Joaquin Ortiz y Marrero age 2: 3.Isabel Ortiz y Marrero age 11 months (making her born May or June 1909). Also living w/them was Carlota Ortiz y Diaz age 12 and prob. dau. of Brigido by a previous relationship. All kids listed as his sons and daughters. In 1920 Brigido lives in Jimenez,Rio Grande w/his wife (married this one) Monserrate Martinez y Suce de Ortiz (b) 1881/82 in P.R. w/her mother (b) in France and her father (b) in Spain. Living w/them and both listed as lodgers are Juan Rivera y Marrero age 7 and Diego Morales y Febulo age 11 (relationship if any unknown) both (b) P.R. to parents (b) P.R. Obviously Juan was a son of Juana but not by Brigido even tho they were in a relationship. Juan was my father and he and Rafael were both known as Ortiz y Martinez by 1930. No knowledge of what happened to other kids. Juana (d) when Juan was (b) (about 1913) and Brigido raised Juan w/Monserrate until Brigido (d) ca. 1926 at which time Juan left Monserrate and went out on his own. In later years Juan and Monserrate reconciled and I knew her as my grandmother. In 1930 I found Juan and Rafael as Ortiz y Martinez which seems to say Monserrate took care of Rafael at some point also and gave him her family name. In 1930 Juan and Rafael lived in Cabezas,Fajardo as lodgers w/Alponse Camacho and family. Don't know if Camacho related or not. Any info on any of these people welcome. Thank you, Dooshna@aol.com

Did your Pimentel family have a Juana Marrero y Pimentel de Ortiz born about 1888/87 who died about 1913 in Fajardo area? She was my grandmother and died when my father was born. Her father was Marrero and her mother Pimentel all born in PR. Lea Mitchell in CT dooshna@aol.com

I don't think so...from what I gather, most of my family stayed in the San German area...and the Pimentel's that I have found are Pimentel y Santiago, the other names were Montalvo and Cintron...I havent's seen any Marrero or Ortiz. Sorry.

Hi,
I just started researching my grandfather, Antonio Quedes Pimentel. He
came from the Azores Islands to northern California in the early 1900's and married Adeleide Amaral also from the Azores. I would love to hear more about theorigins of Pimentel. Many people thought my mother Inez was Mexican. It sounds like you have information about the Pimentel ancestor.
Would you share with me?
I realize you posting was some time ago.
Nancy Hanon-paternal grandfather was Pimentel

Hi, my Pimentel family is also from Michoacan, Mexico. I know two other families who's last names are Montes and Borges, that are also originally from Michoacan and that too is a Portugese spelling of the name because they end in "S" vs "Z". It makes me wonder if there was a settlement of Portugese people who ended up in Michoacan? I would love to learn more about that. I have never heard Portugese people being tall but I can tell you that the Pimentels and the Montes families are very tall! Average female height is about 5'6 and average male height about 6'1.
