My great grandfather's last name was Pilant. He was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian born on a reservation. He was killed around 1928 in Cooksville, Illinois in a grain elevator accident. He had two children, that I know of, named Leah Pilant Innis (my grandmother) and Eddie Pilant from Apple Valley, California. If you have any information please submit a reply.

Hi Karrie, In my files I have Leah Lunetta Pilant, b. 1916, d 1980, married 13 Jan 1934 at McLean County, Illinois to Howard E. Innis, b. 1912 and died Jan 1986. Leah's father is Charlie Pilant, 1873-1923. Her mother is Ella Florance Rogers, 1885-1949. We may be talking about different people since Charlie was not Native American but descends from a long line of French ancestry. If this is your Leah Pilant, contact me at WHutto4521@aol.com

My father was William Raphael Pilant (+1974), who was apparently from MacAllister, OK, but migrated west to the San Francisco, CA area, where I was born in 1952.

I was told that we were part Cherokee, but have been unable to establish ties to the Cherokee Nation.

Please let me know if you or anyone else who reads this has any knowledge about our family/name connection. Thanks!

Hi am new to this ancestry thing lol but I have recently been told about my Cherokee lineage and tried looking it up. Anyway I happened up on your message to karrie from a while back..the Leah Lunetta Pilant that you talk about is my great grandmother..and wondered if the Charlie that you mention is in fact Leah's father? Because we have all been told that that is where our Cherokee history comes from. All of the dates of birth and death that you posted are correct from what my grandmother has told me and if this correct may be the reason it's been so hard to prove our Cherokee lineage. Thanks for your time I'd love to hear back from you!
