Gavin Pihema

Hello,
My name is Eve and I was close to Gavin up until 1997 when we lost touch when he was living in the UK with his wife although most of his family I believe is in Wellington NZ.I very saddenned to read on this site (mundia) he had passed away in 2001. Could anyone help with any information on Gavin? I just wanted to understand what happenned and pay my respects,

Kia ora, My name is Jane Lloyd, I am related to the Pihema's in Ngapuhi,Muangataipa, My grandmother Is Raiha Pihema, who married Hoori Hereora, I have clicked onto other Pihema's who live in Auckland and come from down the East Coast, the only sister to my grandmother is Mate kino that I know of,I dontno where my grandmother come from, if you have the Pihema Whakapapa do you see her and her sisters name on yor whakapapa I'd love to find out, aroha nui Jane..

Oh forgot to add, we definately knew your nan, Uncle Sandy is quite familiar with us, if you tell him Poi Pihema he'll know exactly who your talking about.

Kia Ora, for some reason, I totally forgot about these posts and was doing a random search for Pihema through Google and came across them. My sister and I already know Uncle Sandy (Oneroa) we were raised in the far north and spent many holidays in Mangamuka and Mangataipa. Our whakapapa is quite complex as our grandfather was in the habit of assuming different surnames in his life, including Tawhi & Johnson...I'm moving back to NZ in 2011 and I hope to pick up the search again. Let me know if anyone is interested in any other info.

Im a 15 year old from Mangataipa i went to mangamuka primary school with alot of pihemas and one of my nannies i dont know if you no her but her name is Hariata Pihema brought me up in Kohukohu. Kiaora whanau, My name is Herby Skipper i spotted your email as I was trawling through the pihema website. My connection to the Pihema whanau is a old one going back to Hone Pihema ( Ngati Raukawa) who married my ancestor Toroa.Toroa was Ngai Tahuhu and Ngati Mangamata from the Kaipara Rohe. She was living in 1825 during the battle of Te Ika a Ranginui. Toroa mother was Te Reiwahine and her mother was Te Aotaniwha the daugther of Maikura. Maikura was the daugther of Puhirere he was the son of Pouwhenua who was the son of Te waka who was the son of TahuKarangarua Who lived on the Kaipara rohe in the 1600s. Going back to Hone Pihema and Toroa they are my GGGrandparents their daugther Maata married my GGrandfather WiApo their two sons are WiKaraka Apo and my Grandfather Anaru Wiapo. Maata had brothers Hona, Wi,Takerei, Karena Pihema. Hello, My Name Is Rewa Pihema, My dads name is Joniour Pihema, and my mum is Laureen i have lived in Australia with my brother Tahi and sis Mere for all our lives, and we have always wanted to know about our family and, New Zealand back ground, we only have 3 letters each from our father and i would really like to hear from him and the rest of the family, i have so many questions i would like answered if possible,

I was just looking through this site, and saw that my sister Terrilee, has posted a couple of messages. I have answered to your query, because it seems that she has not got in contact with you for quite some time, and I know that if it were me, I would be quite anxious. Anyways I have read that you have lost my sisters email, she has since changed it, but I will let her know that you have lost her email address. I noticed that the last time, she posted an answer, was a week before our grandfather passed away. At this point, I don't know if she received an answer from him in regards to both the inquiries for yourself & for Tati Pihema. I have been researching my whakapapa (maternal & paternal) as well, for the past 9 months, however for the last 3 months it has been sitting on the back burner, since I moved to Australia, and all of my research is still in New Zealand, of which I will not be receiving until at least February. I'm also very interested to know, what you have found, as I was only able to go back 2 generations from my grandfather. I'm only 25, but I thought the earlier I do it, the easily (I hoped!) it would be. It is not easy, but definately worth the effort. Please reply to this message, and let me know, if we can correspond via email. I think this message is for me I know that dad had a relation called Charlie Pihema I will be in touch with my mum, My dads sister Ani Pihema has just passed away on the 14 July so all the family are slowly making their way home from N>Z have u heard of her. look forward to reading this again Aroha.

Hello again Terrilee I got your email and something happened and it was lost. I was disappointed. Anyway I look in here now more regularly and am looking forward to hearing from u. A cousin who may know something is Pat (Pihema) Dickeson she lives in Woolongong her Dad is Jim Pihema and is the older brother of my dad Hapi. I will put her onto this site. I have just come across this site and think it is wonderful. I live in Melbourne and am originally from Orakei. Ngatiwhatua. My maiden name is Pihema my father is Hapi Pihem and I can vaguely remember him talking about a chalie. We never new very many of my dads family and I have always wondered who his cousins were. Dear Terrilee.
I am a Pihema and very proud of it too. My dad was Hapi Pihema and my mother is Alice. We are Ngatiwhatua and come from Orakei in Auckland. My name is Aroha and although I have lived in Melbourne for nearly 24 years I still love everything about home. I did not know my dads cousins as we seemed to have such a large family I just assumed growing up that was everyone, but my mum commented one day that there were none of my dads cousins and I was shocked I would love to find the rest of his family too.

I am going to ask my grandfather about Hapi Pihema that name seems very familiar.
I have been living in Sydney for five years now and there is too much whanau here, we all get together now and again.

I was brought up in Ngapuhi and still dont know all my whanau, My Papa is from Waikare and Mangataipa in the heart of Hokianga.
I am wondering if you realise how huge this whanau is?
when I hear from my papa, i'll be back to this site.

I am only new to this way of doing whakapapa, but as you will be aware whanau are no longer in their original place of birth.

Iam very keen to find out anuthing that may give me a lead on my Grandmother Tati. I have since received a little information in regards to some of her family.
I do believe that she had a Brother called Charlie (Clarkie), and an uncle known as Riki Pihema. If you or anyone else know anything regards these two relations please contact me. I would be forvere grateful.

I would like any information that may help to build my whakapapa.
Tati Pihema was my Grandmother, thought to have come from Ngapuhi, and married Hari Erueti. They had four Sons one of whom is my Father. As she died around approx, 1934, there is no knowledge of her background, but I believe that she had a brother known as Charlie Pihema. Any information would be most gratefully appreciated.
