Hi, I keep forgetting that you also get notified since your message started the thread. I have been following your messages, I am interested in all three groups of Piggs. It is helpful to mention race since that is why I have been following parallel lines in several names because it is hard to separate out the families. I find that if I keep notes on the various names, that I do not waste as much time following the wrong line. As far as I can determine all the Pigg lines in my database on Rootsweb.com are white or possibly native american. However, I am interested in the african american lines and especially in sources for information. I teach a part-time genealogy group in internet searching and several members of the group are descendants of former slaves who homesteaded in Oklahoma.

You might take a look at my database on Rootsweb.com it is under the name "megsmess" it has several lines of Piggs that come originally from Virginia and several of them were large plantation owners and had slaves. There seems to be a migration out of Virginia south and another that went north. You might be able to find another county or place to search.

I also should have changed the subject line in my first response. Thanks for your response. If I can help you let me know, my family has been in Oklahoma since prior to statehood and I have a fairly good background in Oklahoma history.

As far as I know there is a good possibility that the Pigg family originated in Virginia. All I know since I have only known them in the last couple of years is that they came from Arkansas. I know there are a lot of them in California. Those are the ones I have met. It seems there was a big plantation in Arkansas that had a lot of slaves and it got so big it became Vaden Arkansas. That is what I heard. If you go to the library where you can look at film you will see a lot of Pigg in Vaden Arkansas. That is how I found them. It showed who was living in the house with them but I only found this at the library. Since blacks were slaves back then its possible they took the names of there owner and there probably were children envolved. The Pigg family is supposed to be a cousin to my grandmother that is why I always include Allen family as a surname and they were in Va. Arkansas too. There is a book for the Pigg family that comes out every couple of years. They had a reunion I think in Dos Palos This year and it is every year in California somewhere. I have never been to one. I just found out I was related to them. If you find any Allens with them let me know. The Indian in this family is choctow.

I am very very new at this, but noticed talk of John Pigg dying in Texas. What time frame are you looking at here? I know that the Pigg family seems to be full of men named John, but my grandfather was named John Kenneth Pigg, his father was I think Alexander Henry Pigg and I think that his father was John Noah Pigg??? and I think that they were from McKinney Texas? or at least I think I know that my grandfather lived there until about 8th grade then they moved to Oklahoma. He was the youngest of a large family and had a cousin Joyce? that was raised with him. I also think that my grandfather John Pigg had an Uncle named Tom Pigg.

Almost all of this information is coming from the back of pictures as my grandfather died before I was born, however I would really like to find more information about him and his family.

If anyone has more information for me, please email me at mel1@pigg.us

My daughter is interested in finding any Pigg's family members that are Indian/Caucasian ancestry. Her father is not in the picture and all I know is that his mother was Bobbie Pigg that married a Whisenhunt in Oklahoma. I was told that she was Indian decent.
