We are family from England descended from Thomas and Ann Huntner Pigford thru Matthew and Emma Taylor Pigford thru John Thomas Sr. and Mary Frances Reay Pigford from England to Weir City, Kansas to Collinsville, Illinois. We are in search of Indian heritage thru Matthew Pigford while in Weir City, Kansas which Emma Taylor Pigford raised. Any help. We will be glad to help in any research and information you might need from us. Please get in touch.

Dear Bonnie
I believe that you are descended from Thomas Pigford b.15 Aug 1840 and Annie Mason (not Hunter as you state). Thomas's parents were John Pigford b. 1815 and Margaret Hunter b. 1820, which is where the confusion probably arises.
I'm afraid that I can't help with any Native American heritage, but I do have a substantial tree of Pigg and Pigford in which your ancestors feature which I can share with you – I believe that the line goes back to Anthony Pigg who married Elizabeth Lindsay on 14 June 1696 in Gateshead, Co. Durham, UK.
I would be very interested to learn more from you about the descendants of John Thomas Pigford b. 23 Aug 1888, Weir City, Kansas, as my tree stops with his grandchildren. Much of my US data is from Nellie Gerlach whose name you will see elsewhere on the message board and who is descended from another of Thomas Pigford and Annie Mason's sons, John Mason Pigford who also came across to the US from UK.
Regards Ben

In response to your message - I am a descendant of Matthew Pigford, son of John Mason Pigford who was a brother to the Matthew you refer to as being the father of John Thomas. As a child I visited John Thomas and Frances in Collinsville. Your Matthew came to the US (Weir City) in 1888 with his father Thomas Hunter Pigford along with his wife Ann Mason, Matthew and his wife Emma Taylor, John Mason and his wife Elizabeth Beck and Thomas Hunter's sister Margaret. They left some of the children back in England and in 1889 Ann Mason went back and brought them to Weir City. For some reason Matthew and Emma went back to England in 1890 or 91 along with the infant Ann and John Thomas. The 1891 census shows them in England at that time living in Pelton. John Thomas was 2 and Ann was 10 months. Shortly after that census on Oct. 23, 1891 Emma died. Matthew returned to the US in 1892 and married Jane Mason Clasper whose husband, Thomas, had been killed in the mines in 1891. Matthew and Jane returned to England about 1896 and then returned to the US in 1904. I have a lot more information which I would be glad to share with you if you will contact me at 8191 N. Nature Trail Road, Sparta, Il 62286 or e-mail me. Regarding the Native American connection, I know nothing about that and wonder if this could be an actual fact since Matthew and Emma were only in the US from 1888 to 1891. I have been looking for some Collinsville Pigfords that I might share this information with and just recently found a gentleman in Texas by the name of Dave Hunsicker whose great grandmother was the infant Ann that Emma Taylor and Matthew took back to England in 1891. I also have made contact with the Harle family who came back to the US with Matthew in 1891 who are indirectly related - either through the Claspers or the Taylors or perhaps the Masons. Perhaps you have information on them. It would be great to share information with you and perhaps connect some more of the dots that have escaped me. Best regards. Nellie Gerlach
