"Pifer Hill" in Preston Co.
Does anyone have any info on a "Pifer Hill", in or near Aurora, and near Horse Shoe Run, or know of any Pifers that owned property there, or still may own property there. Also looking for anyone with info on Jacob Pifer and Catharine Bolyard Pifer...where they lived before they died in late 1800's, etc. I have some conflicting info on Jacob and wish to obtain factual info, if possible.

Re: "Pifer Hill" in Preston Co.
No real help here just more questions. I am related to Andrew J. Pifer whose father is a Jacob. But I thought the mother's name was Rachel. Do you know if Jacob and Catharine had a son Andrew J.? The 1860 Census shows Jacob and Rachael and their children. Could Catherine be a 2nd wife or perhaps Rachael was. It shows 7 children. My gg grandmother Mary Ann Pifer married Henry Harsh and they had a house on Horse Shoe Run wonder if it was the same one.
Wish I had more help.

Re: "Pifer Hill" in Preston Co.
The Jacob Pifer that I am related to, was the father of my Gr. grandfather, Steven (Stephen Pifer). Jacob was married to a Catherine (Kathryn) Bolyard. Andrew may be a brother of Jacob, but I am not sure. I do have the lineage back that far as of yet.

Re: "Pifer Hill" in Preston Co.
There is a Pifer Hill in Barbour County. My direct line is Andrew J Pifer with father Jacob wife Rachel. There are many Pifer in and around the St. George and all of them had lots of male off spring all named Jacob, Andrew or Emanuel who I have as Jacob's father b. 1790 d. 1885 and his father Emanuel b 1755. I know there is a cemetery in Tucker called Pifer family cemetery. With all the Pifer's in the area and women sometimes dying young Jacob could easily have married twice. I did find my Jacob in the 1860 census District 3, Tucker, Va. the post office Holly Meadows. I may have more info I haven't worked on the this line for some time. I wrote and got the civil war records of Andrew J which describes his looks and war wounds and pension listing his second wife and the children. If Andrew J is also your family line I would be willing to share with you what I have. Sherry

Re: "Pifer Hill" in Preston Co.
My Jacob Pifers fathers name was John, and Mother name Mary. Not sure if this helps any. My Jacob was married to Catherine Bolyard, her parents were Stephen J. Bolyard, and Mary Sanders. I am looking for graves of Stephen Pifer and Maudie A. Riley Pifer, who died within days of each other in 1917-1918. Can find graves of Stephens brothers, but not his and Maudies. Stephen W. Pifer is Jacob and Catherine Bolyards son. Thanks.

Re: "Pifer Hill" in Preston Co.
Have you tried the site Sortedbyname.com it is excellent especially for West Virginia. I am also related to Stephen Bolyard although I don't know if his middle initial is J. See History of Preston Cty. pg 324. Talks about the original Stephen who came from Lancaster Pa where he lived top of Laurel Hill near Drover's Rest? Talks about 4 of his sons who remained in Preston Cty mentioning Stephen (called Indian Steve) because of his dark complexion. Also mentions that these brothers had 30 sons and 12 daughters. Makes it complicated doesn't it! Hist. of Preston Cty is by Morton and on pg 415 it has Stephen wife's name as Barbara Rosier but of course he very well may have had more than one wife and somewhere I also found out he was a twin with Nicholas.

I would be interested in the info you have on Andrew J Pifer. He was my great-great grandfather. His daughter Nellie was my grandfather's mother.
