Hello Jill,

That's the one, thanks. It's always a pleasant surprise when the BMD site is updated and another link in the chain is uncovered.

I've drawn a blank on his birth certificate but have a suspicion that his surname at birth was not piears - this may be tricky to prove or disprove beyond reasonable doubt but I'll keep plugging away at it.

At least getting a copy of his death cert disproved a family rumour about his uncommon cause of death - I still find in this genealogical delving that, contrary to the well known phrase, fiction is quite often stranger than fact.

Thanks for your prompt on James - I'm still no further towards gathering documentation on the 18th C Piears connections other than the stuff available through the National Archives.

If anyone else out there researching Piears wants to contact me direct I can be found with my username (matpiears) @hotmail.com

Regards, Mat.

Hi Pauline

Frank and Ethel were my Grandparents. My Dad Anthony is their eldest son and Donald is my Uncle. I was born in Chelsea on 7th October 1964 but only lived there for a year before moving to Hastings. Then aged 4 moved from Hastings to Lancing, West Sussex where we've been ever since. I have a younger Sister Kay who was born 8th October 1965.

I guess then you are my Dad's cousin. Is that from Frank or Ethel's side? Frank died before I was born. Ethel and I were very, very close. She was my best friend.

I have a son Jordan born on 2nd May 1993, and Kay has a son called Thomas born on 5th December 2006. Does this help? If you want any more information then please get in touch.

Kim x

Hi Pauline Frank was my mum's brother. She was Nell [died 2002] Are you from Ethels side of the family? I was in touch with Donald a few years back but sadly didn't follow up. Tried many times to trace the name back - I know it goes back to 1700s in America. How much luck have you had?
