Hi Lillie,

Maybe you can help me with a connection I'm trying to make. My gg-grandmother was Margaret Catherine Pidcock, the sister of Lyle Singleton Pidcock. I have a photograph of my great-grandfather, Baker Eddings with a family that my grandmother identified as "his aunt, Mrs. Sheldon and her family". I would guess this picture was taken sometime in the 1890's. Do you know if any of the other Pidcock sisters married a Sheldon/Shelton/Chilton or any similar sounding name?

Thanks,
Rhonda Brown

Margaret Catherine is said to have died in Washington County but I have nothing on it.
I did find another line Lineas/Liner had a daughter Martha J who lived in Todd County Ky but she died there as well.
She married a Samuel Black Shemwell I am afraid I am not much help. If you can find out exactly who. I have not of course had much luck on some of these children from both sides. I know that John Henry married again after Catherine died. The lady was Sarah Bell this was a second marriage for her. She brought children into the marriage and they lived in Oklahoma at the time.

Thank you for the quick response, and so much information! I've seen the 1870 census records you referred to where Baker Pidcock's family is listed as Bidcock. Only the youngest daughter, who is on a separate page has the correct surname spelling.

John Henry and Margaret Catherine were married on October 24, 1869 in Washington County, Arkansas. At the time, he was a widower with two young children--Aaron Henry (b. 1867) and Lucinda Elizabeth "Lizzie" (b. 1869). I haven't found any information on his first wife, but possibly she's the one who died in Washington County.

I think Catherine actually died in Grayson County, Texas in 1879, and that she was the mother of all John Henry's remaining children. Also, each of these children were named after various members of Catherine's immediate family. They are:

Virginia Clementine Eddings (b. 1871), named for Catherine's sister, Missouri Clementine Pidcock DeGough

William Jason Eddings (b. 1872), named after Catherine's brothers Jason Pidcock and possibly William Pidcock--paternal grandfather was also William

Baker Caswell Eddings (b. 1874), named for maternal grandfather Baker Pidcock

Mae Bell Eddings (b. 1876), named for Catherine's sister Florence Mae Pidcock

Allen Singleton Eddings (b. 1879), named after your great-grandfather, Lyle Singleton Pidcock

Allen (who went by the nickname Curn) is often attributed to being the son of John Henry and Sarah Bell, with a birth date of 1881. However, the 1900 census records for Custer County, Oklahoma list his birth date as January, 1879. I also have a copy of Virginia's application to probate John Henry's estate after his death in 1915, and the ages she provides for her siblings match the above birth years.

Do you have a source for the marriage of John Henry and Sarah Bell? I would love to find verification that they were actually married because I've seen that information on several trees. It may be similar to the trees that have Ira Baker Pidcock and Nancy Branson as spouses. The only connection I've found between John Henry and Sarah was on the 1880 Grayson County, Texas census. At the time, they were neighbors, and Lizzie Eddings was at the Bell home the day the census was taken. The information lists her as a daughter, which I think was simply an error on the census taker's part. That same census only lists John Henry's older sons in his household, so there is nothing to account for the whereabouts of Virginia, Mae or Allen at that time. On the 1890 Indian Territory Census, John Henry was a widower who lived at Woodville, Chickasaw Nation (present day Marshall County) with his 4 sons and 3 daughters. He was also a widower on both the 1900 and 1910 Custer County, Oklahoma census.

Hello.
Margaret Catherine was his first wife they married in 1861, Catherine died abt 1874 and he shows up in Grayson County, that is where he met Sarah Bell but they got married in Oklahoma as I find information on but only through trees. I would love to have document on. However the Baker Caswell name comes from both his Grandfather Baker for Pidcock and Caswell could have come from the Eddings side of the family. I have tried everyone of the files and can not find anyone connected to the names you are seeking. I know that John Henry Eddings move to Oklahoma before 1900 They live around the Barnitz Custer County, Area.of Oklahoma.
per documents acquired from the St. Louis Genealogical Society)

William Caswell "Flying White Cloud" Eddings was believed to be a decendent of White Horse John and Sitting Bull who lived in Indian Campu in Missouri (Cherokee Tribe).

From family bible (per Wanda Perry) William Caswell Eddings was a Cherokee Indian. He was beaten to death by white folks. Info came from family Bible
This fellows Wife was Edna "Edney" Moody = Birth 1809
in Cherokee Territory, Western, North Carolina, USA
Death --11 Jul 1868==in Servier, , Arkansas, USA

Full blooded Cherokee.

(per documents acquired from St. Louis Genealogical Society) Full blood Crete Indian. ( Don't have these documents they came from Family Trees on Ancestry.
Hope this helps

Sorry I forgot to sign the last post off. I don't have any good data on the time of the marriage of Sarah and John Henry but I do have a story. email me at lillieb555@gmail.com Iknow there was at least possibly one child that was born to Sarah before the marriage was suppose to happen this all happened in Grayson county, Texas. BELL, SARAH (1880 U.S. Census)
TEXAS , GRAYSON, 7-PCT
Age: 42, Female, Race: WHITE, Born: TN
Series: T9 Roll: 1307 Page: 378
this census show Sarah Bell listed with her girls All girls.
The last girl listed is Lizzie Eddings 10 years old this I believe is James Henry's child but anyway this is the lady he was suppoe to have married second time.
