Eli also married Anne Rossen who is my great grandmother. They had a daughter named Eileen that is still living in California. I am trying to find out information about Eli's side of the family. My mom, who is Eli's grand daughter was born in Pawtucket Rhode Island and moved out to California when she was 16. I would love to find out what other information you can help provide.

I am also researching what you are researching. I am a great great grandson of Sarah (Harper) Madden, a sister of your descendant Elizabeth (Harper) Pickersgill, grandmother of Eli Pickersgill. It looks like we are related through the Harper clan of Rochdale, Lancashire, England. Eli had two wives, first is Esther Moores and second is Alice Poirier, marries in abt. 1917. I do have a file on the entire Harper family that I can send you, but I will send it to you via email. I hope will have a chance to look at it and see what you think. Hi, I have lots of records and census returns for Pickersgills in that area and at that time. I am descended from a Richard Pickersgill but not that one. think I have records relating to him though and will look them out for you.

I am researching 19th C. residents of a house we own in Washington. A Hannah Pickersgill, whose occupation was listed as a pianist, boarded at our house in the early 1870s. Does anyone have any more information on this interesting entry?

My uncle , son of Emma Maria Bartlett and Robert Pickersgill.
Married Joan McKean, not sure of the year.
He died in a road grading accident in circa 1957.
Buried in Wonthaggi Vic.
My father and he were brothers , dad being Thomas Leslie Pickersgill. Born 1908, died 1982

I have just started searching my family tree. I too am a desendant of Richard Pickersgill. I don't know alot about him however I'm sure my Dad told me he became an alcoholic after sailing with Cook, and met an untimely death. Samuel Pickersgill who settled illegally on Churchill Island (Victoria Australia) was also a desendant of Richard.

Hello!! Thanks so much for getting in touch. I had found Fanny working in lichfield in 1841. I have yet to find Samuel in 1841. On Fanny & John Tyler wedding cert 31st Oct 1847 it says Samuel was a Horse Keeper. I wonder why they went to Kent? How are you desended from Samuel?

pam, i understand that samuel married mary drowley on 18th sept 1805 in Ramsgate, Kent. this would explain why their son, Walter b1806 was also born in kent.
i dont know where he was baptised, but it was likely to have been staffordshire, as his possible parents, Hannah (1763-1851) and Samuel lived there.
if you look at the 1841 census for fanny, you will see she was living at an inn in Boar st, lichfield. also working there was a girl called mary ann ramshall who married fannys brother, william! maybe fanny introduced them. good to hear from you.

Hi, I am desended from Francis (Fanny) Pickersgill, born 1821 & bap 25th De 1826 St Chads, Lichfield, daughter of Sauel & Mary.Was Samuel baptised in Lichfield, Fanny married John Tyler & from Bedworth & lived in Birmingham.
Was Samuel baptised in Lichfield? Where did he marry?

Jodie, we're from the same generation I believe. My great-grandfather Wray Pickersgill is undoubtedly Alan's brother. There is a fairly large population of the family located in Central New York, but they don't have the Pickersgill name. Wray had 3 daughters, all of whom married and took the husband's name. However, 2 of the sisters had large families. If you would like to swap some info, I would be much appreciated since I can't go back any further after our great grandparents.

You are right William Henry was the youngest of nine. My great, great grandmother was the third child. I have information most of the brothers and sisters but hardly anything on William Henry. Would like to swap details.

I am researching the Bratton surname from Leeds, England. Have recently been in contact with someone inquiring about a Sidney Pickersgill from Leeds who came to America in early 1900's. Does any lister have a Benjamin PICKERSGILL b abt 1787 in their family research? The only close match to date is Benjamin christened 12 Oct 1788 in Barwick in Elmet, Yorks, which is abt 16 miles north of Barnsley.

Also looking for any films of Yorks Index or parish registers, CofE, since I can't find anything in the LDS for Barnsley to date!

I was looking for information about Fairfeild House, the home of Robert Pickersgill, Mary Jane Hanby and famliy in the 1901 and 1911 census. The house is still there at the junction of Station Road and Fairfield road, although I'm not sure if its still private dwellings. Ive attached a photo from 1914, and any information about it, or Robert and Family would be very much appreciated!

We are rather distantly related.
Samuel Pickersgill was my great, great, great great grandfather. I am related through his son William born 1817. I wonder why he went to Kent not exactly close, and then returned.
This is as far back as I have got. I do have that Samuel was married to a Mary born 1786.

I was hoping that someone could help me. I am looking for more information on Betty Pickersgill (abt 1801) in the Glossop/ area. I have found her on the 1841 Census with her children, Henry, Samual and Betty but i am unable to find her maiden name or any of the birth records of her children. On the census she is a widow.

My wife's great grandmother was Sarah Jane PICKERSGILL, born 15th April 1848 at Millfield House, near Harewood, the daughter of William Henry PICKERSGILL and Hannah PICKERSGILL formerly KENT.
William Henry PICKERSGILL of Wigton, farmer married Hannah KENT of Moor Allerton on 8th February 1848 at Leeds Parish Church by licence (Shot gun?). His father was John PICKERSGILL, farmer and her father was Benjamin KENT, farmer.
The Parish Registers for Harewood give a comprehensive record of the KENT family to the early 17th century but I only have the IGI to go on for the PICKERSGILL family.
William Henry seems to be the youngest of nine children of John and Sarah if the IGI is correct. What do you think?

my understanding is that its a place name from near killinghall, w yorks. pickers meaning footpad, or robber, and gill meaning deep valley witn stream.

Sarh Pickersgill, born 1854,at Brandy Carr, Alverthorpe Twp, Yorksire married John Abson (his 2nd wife) on 2/5/1887 in East Ardsley.

She was the daughter of Thomas Pickersgill, born 1831 in West Ardsley and Susannah Beecher, b 1835 in East Ardsley.

Thomas Pipckersgill, b 1831, was the son of Thomas Pickersgill, b 1807 in Methley and died 1868 in Pontefract. His wifes name was Sarah.

Suannah Beecher was the daughter of John Beecher, b 1808 in Alverthorpe and "Sarah" born 1810 in Stanley, Wakefield, York

My GG Grandmother was Sarah Pickersgill probably born bewtween 1855-1870. She married John Abson and had 3 sons, one of which was Melvin. They were from Leeds/Hull/Stanley in Yorkshire. Anything sound familiar?

Seems like a lot of the Pickersgills had North Yorkshire and North East England connections. I am descended from Charles Thompson Pickersgill (brother to William - one of the principal shipbuilders). Charles was a grocer, married to Hannah with four children. If this links to any of the other research mentioned I would be interested to know. I am particularly interested in the reference to Peter Pickersgill (as I always thought it was William who was the shipbuilder).
