I am going to reply using the same response I gave to another post asking if Pickerings of Rockingham County N.H. were related to those in Salem Ma. both books may be of use to you. I was able to view on line through my local library.
Here was my response: I live in Salem, Ma. I looked up in a small genealogy by Robert Henry Eddy "Supplement to Genealogical data respecting John Pickering of Portsmouth N.H." published in 1884. There seems to have been two John Pickerings, one in Salem Ma. and the other Portsmouth, N.H. In his book, Mr. Eddy states that the N.H. Pickering came to Portsmouth from Massachusetts in 1633. He doesn't clarify who he was related to or any facts pertaining to his Massachusetts origins. He conjectures that the two John Pickerings were probably cousins but does this without giving any supporting data.
There is a massive, multi volume, published genealogy by Harrison Ellery and Charles Pickering Bowditch entitled "Pickering Genealogy" printed in 1897. This book(s) goes into detail on the Pickering Family with John Pickering of Salem as patriarch. However the ancestor you seek may have moved from the Salem area to Portsmouth and may not be part of John of Portsmouth's family. Good luck.
