Pickel Cemetery in Roane County, TN

Can anyone tell me if this is an actual cemetery? or a family plot? If it is a cemetery, has it been photographed? On Findagrave.com? Are family members still buried in this cemetery? I am researching Elijah Barton Pickel who died in 1932. He was the son of French Pickel who is buried in Phoenix, Oregon. I am unable to find where Elijah Barton (E,B.) & his wife Mattie (Delashmit) Pickel are buried.

Hi Eric:

Thank you that does help me. I knew Edward died in a car accident as I have the burial register.
I have Doris & Edward's Marriage Certificate. Also have Connie's birth certificate and baptism register.

Now I have more sleuthing to do but I have a direction to go in.

Do you know where I might get a copy of Edward's obituary? What paper it may have appeared in or what archive has them?

Hello,

I have a Carolyn Pickel ( Connie) b. 1926. Daughter of Edward Pickel and Doris Menzies
She is the only child I show.

Carolyn married Georges Govan b. 1928. I show 4 children - Peter , Laura , David, Matthew.
No other info down from them.
I also show Connie married twice - once to a ? McCourt. no dates.
If I'm not mistaken, My Father spoke of Connie. He knew her I believe.

notes on Edward : Edward died young. Ed died in a car crash on Halloween night.

I have Edwards line all the way back to Jacob Pickel b. 1757.
This is my direct line.
I currently live in Canada, about 30 miles from Newport Vt.

My great aunt Doris Hildegarde Menzie (1903-1991) married Martin Edward Pickell (1901-1939) (parents are Martin Van Buren Pickell 1856- & Laura Bernice 1875 – 1935) on Nov 12 1925.

Carolyn Audrey was born 12 Dec 1926 in Newport, Orleans, Vermont. She was christened the 29 Apr 1928 in Farnham, Brome-Missisquoi, Quebec, Canada. There is where the trail runs cold.

Martin died in an auto accident on 8 Oct 1939 in Hawkesbury, Prescott and Russell, Ontario, Canada. Doris and a daughter Jacquelyn relocated to Rochester, Monroe, New York afterward.

Does anyone have any information on her? Or does anyone has Martin's obituary? That would give me a jumping off point. Did she die young?

Also I know of Carolyn Audrey and Jacquelyn...were their any other children? I ask as they are born 10 years apart which is a bit unusual. Doris did have a son Albert in 1943.

Jane's maiden name was not Richesin. She married my 3rd grandfather Jesse Richesin after 1860. Her husband Martin had died in 1860, and Jesse's wife had died after the 1860 census was taken. They were neighbors.

I don't know when Jane died but theorize that she died after she was listed on the 1880 census and before the 1900 census ( As you know there's not a 1890 census for TN.)
I do have info on her family. Did you mean her children's names or her parents' names?
Back in 2003 I corresponded with Mary Lewis of Norman OK who thought Jane was connected to the Witten family.
Let me know what specific info you want since I don't know what you already have.

Hi there,
I am a descended from Harriet Pickel, she was my great grandmother on my mothers side.
I am going to Missouri next week to look for some info on the Peck side of my family and also got interested in the Pickels.
When I was about 12 (1976) my grandfather took us there and we saw a lot of old graves and homesteads that he remembered as the Pickel side of the family.
I recently came across a photo that is marked as 'JL and Eugenia Pickel". I believe this to be Elizabeth (walker) pickel and Jacob Lee, possibly on their wedding day judging from their attire.
I don't want to get your hopes up but I may have the birth dates of the 5 girls, my grandmother left us a genealogy as well as she knew and I am not sure if the girls all made that list. Beside that the other reason not to hope too much is that I am in the middle of a home remodel and honestly am not sure where that stuff is. However since I am getting interested in this again I will probably look a little harder for it when I get back from my trip.

I'm seeking information about my family. In what I've found, I've seen the name spelled Pickle and Pickel. Here is what I have, so far, beginning with me:

Jim Walton (me) < Leo Pickle < Henry F. (Frank) Pickle (of Bernadotte, IL) < Wesley Pickle (of Ohio).

I have much of the information about spouses and some of the children, but everything is still a bit sketchy. I do know that my mother (Alice Walton (Pickle) and Grandparents (Leo Pickle and Dorothy Glee Pickle (Smith?) are buried in Macomb, Illinois. I believe my Grandmother (Dorothy Glee Pickle (Smith?) had connections in Ipava, Illinois.

By the way, my father was Charles (Bud) Walton of Macomb, Illinois.

I'm seeking any information possible, especially documents and photos.

I also am descended through Martin Luther Pickel. His son William Franklin Pickel (Mollie Jean)was my great grandfather through his son, Othello Theo Pickel (Ethel Walls). Thier son, John Robert Pickel was my father. I am interested in the names and any dates associated with Johann Frederick Pickel's parents. I can't seem to find any verifiable information prior to Johann Frederick Pickel. Thanks for any help.

Othello and Ethel Pickel's son John Robert Pickel was married to Vonda Clouse in Indiana and had one daughter, Jennifer (which is me). I have two sons. John passed away in 2005.

Pickel or Pickle in Tennessee

It's been awhile since I posted here, and since I have a new email address I thought I'd give it another shot.

I am looking for information on the family and ancestors of John M Pickle/Pickel of Tennessee. John M. was born about July 1863. He was married to Lura/Lora Duff (1869-?). They had at least six children, Bertha Mae Pickle (1890-1946) who married Hugh Johnson, William Pickle (1893-1964) who married Hattie Queener, Eva Pickle (1899-?), Horace Pickel (1901-1962?) who may have married Margaret Smith, James Porter Pickle (1904-?), and Mary Magdeline Pickle (1908-1997) who married George H. Jones.

The family lived in Anderson County, TN on the 1900 and 1910 census. They lived in Campbell County, TN on the 1920 census. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for information on a son of Washington and Nancy Pickel. On the 1880 Union Parish Louisiana census (which is very hard to read), there is a son listed being born around 1873. I believe all the indices list him as Judge Pickel but I believe his name was John Henry.

John Henry Pickel, b. April 1871/1873 Louisiana; married 1898 to Nellie Crane, b. May 1874 Missouri d. 1907-1909 St. Louis, MO (Births based on 1900 and 1920 census)

1. John Washington Pickel, b. April 1899 St. Louis
2. Mary A. Pickel, b. 1900/1901 St. Louis
3. Lucille Helen Pickel, b. 8/19/1903 St. Louis d. 11/18/1980 California
4. Jesse Robert Pickel, b. 6/11/1905 St. Louis d. 8/28/1967 California (Birth record has Robert Jesse)
5. Florence Pickel, b. 12/14/1907 St. Louis

In 1910, John Washington and Florence were listed in Larche and Nannie Pickel Landers household (The Landers adopted Florence by 1920); Mary A. and Lucille were listed in Joseph and Mollie Pickel Hodnett's household; and Jesse Robert was listed in James and Emma Pickel Lindsey's household. In 1920, Mary A. and Lucille were back in St. Louis with father John Henry; Jesse Robert was living with Charles and Mattie Pickel Carothers in Memphis, TN and Florence "Flosey" was adopted by the Landers.

On 6/26/1918 in Union County, Arkansas, Bessie Hodnett, daughter of Joseph and Mollie Pickel Hodnett, married Robert Arrington, my cousin. Bessie and Robert divorced sometime around 1922. On 12/5/1922 in Saline County, Arkansas, Robert Arrington married Lucille Helen Pickel. Robert and Lucille are believed to have divorced sometime between 1930 and 1940 as Robert was married to a Maud William(s) when he died in 1940. Bessie Hodnett and Lucille Pickel were cousins.

I also am related to Christian Pickel. I have several family members buried in the family section of Asbury Cemetery in Knox County, Tennessee. Tell me who you are looking for and what information you can share. I am related thru Samuel and Charlie Pickel. My grandfather Charlie Pickel donated some of the land that makes Asbury Cemetery. All the Pickel side of my family are buried there. Christian is my great great grandfather. Mary Peck is Christian's 2nd wife. Mary Peck's child Samuel is my great grandfather. His son, Charles Mack Pickel is my grandfather. His child Ruby Virginia Pickel Gazlay is my mother.

born in Germany in 1606 died in 1682. He is was listed
on an Immigration form as "John". I don't have any
other information. This family line becomes Bickel
and is related to me by my Grand Aunt who married

Etha Mae and Frank are buried in the Bernadotte Cemetary in Fulton County , Il. Next to them is a grave marked Hereford which i assume is Etha Mae, parents. I don't have the exact names in front of me now, but I did write them down. Cemetary is located along the south edge of the village of Bernadotte.

There will be a Family Reunion on Sunday July 26, 2009 at the Farm Bureau Building, 1630 North Broadway on Route 37 North in Salem, IL. The potluck will begin at 11:00 AM. Please bring covered dish, meat, or dessert. Drinks will be furnished.
This line are descendents of Johann Frederick Boeckel b. Aug 18,1792 in Rowan County, NC who had changed his name to Pickel.

I have been researching my family history, but have not been able to get any further than John Pickel, my great great great grandfather. I know he was born in PA (I believe in Allentown) in 1856 and at some point had moved to NJ. He married Anne Cavanaugh in 1880, whom he met through his mothers business (she helped Irish immigrants find employment as domestics. I don't have her name). They had 5 children (George, Daisy, Lily, Violet and Rose.)

I have been unable to find any information regarding his parents or siblings. If you have any information to offer I would greatly appreciate it!!

i do not know, but there is a possiblity. This Pickel line is actually from Germany, PA, NC, IN, and Illinois. The bloodline out of Illinois is Johann Frederick Pickel. His last name was originaly Boeckel, in which is father was John Valentine Boeckel. You can get further info at this family website: www.fmoran.com/boeckel.html
