ZANESVILLE: Gene E. Pica, Jr., 77, of Zanesville, Ohio died 12:05 AM Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at The Oaks at Bethesda following extended health issues.

He was born Wednesday, April 21, 1937 in Bellaire, Ohio (Belmont County) the son of Gene E. Pica, Sr. and Mary (Perigliosi) Pica.

He married Jaqueline K. (Mizer) Pica on Saturday, August 17, 1968.

He was a Graduate of Miami University where he was a member of the Phi Epsilon Tau Fraternity.
Following graduation Gene began his teaching career at Maysville High School, where he was the Hi Y Advisor and his Automotive Class received 1st Place in the Plymouth Auto Troubleshooting Contest for Students.

Gene retired from Maysville High School following 35 years of educating.
He loved to cook Italian food using many family recipes. He especially loved to make his homemade sausage. Gene had a great sense of humor, always had a story to tell and had a great love for animals.

Gene is survived by his wife of over 45 years: Jacquie Pica; one brother: Richard and Joyce Pica of Bellaire; two nephews: Dr. Richard and Jennifer Pica of Hermitage, PA and Dirk and Sandra Pica of Dublin, OH; one niece: Jill and Michael Waller of Flushing, Ohio; two cousins: Gloria and Henry Martin of Bellaire and Jean DeBonis of Shadyside, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a cousin: Sam Volpe

Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, August 15, 2014 at The Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville where Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 16, with Rev Ray Morrison officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to the Animal Shelter Society, 1430 Newark Road, Zanesville, Ohio 43701 in Gene's memory.
