I am a great great great grandson of Edward Piburn. Until recently I was happy to know that he was born in 1775 in Tennessee and died in 1852 in Missouri. This account is supported by the record in the James Harvey Piburn bible and by many postings on this forum.
However, I have recently discovered evidence that Edward married for a second time, raised another family and died on the Oregon trail. Here are the citations:

their children included:
1. Salina 1837 Saline, Andrew County, MO-Turner OR age 72; to Linn County, OR with father 1852; married James Shelton Hines 1856
2. Jacob died 16 March 1901, buried at Wasco, Sherman County, OR; in Benton County, OR 1880; married Susan (Mulkey) Henderson 1873
3. Amon
4. Edward "Ned" 15 Sept 1848 MO-1 Oct 1916 Suver, OR, buried Gingles/Suver Cemetery, Benton County

“Edward Piburn was both about 1802 in Illinois and died in 1852 in Platte River, Nebraska. He married Elizabeth Robbins December 24, 1832 in Missouri. Made Captain of a wagon train that was crossing the plains to Oregon in 1852. He was widowed and went with 8 children. Edward died at the Platte River from Cholera. He turned to his trusted friend Hames Shelton Hines to raise his children.”
