I have a copy of a probate page (St. Louis & St. Louis Co Probate records will Book E Vol II 1849-1861) showing Catherine Dickson listed as dau. of Peter Pianet (this is a misspelling despite all the other variations Payant, Payan and occasionally Paillant) Wrtn 12-26-45 ( I'm guessing written 1845) rec (recorded)8-7-56. I don't understand an eleven year lag. Other children listed: John Pianet son and Ex (our ancestor), Francis Pianet, son; Paschal Pianet son;Elizabeth Walton dau; Samuel D Walton Ex; David Thomas Wit;James Patton Sr. & James Patton Wit. E: 510-511 I'm guessing that catherine's husband's name is missing for a reason Death? which would follow if she had a later surname. I also have a page from hammons@mail.com "Descendants of John Baptist Payant dit St. Onge showing Catherine Payant St. Onge (this was a kind of French nickname of her father and brother) was born Abt. 1810 in St Louis King of France Cathedral -We locals call it the Old Cathedral- still standing on the river front-St louis Mo I'm sure they don't mean born but baptized. She Married James Withington 25 May 1824 in St Louis City Mo. Children of the two of your ancestors listed as Elisabeth Withington; Jean-Baptiste Withington; Anoyme (? is this a name or French for something?) Thomas Withington
OK and I also show them buried with other Withingtons in Old St Ferdinand's de Florrisant 1792-1840 cemetary. This is from Old Cemetaries of St. louis Co.Mo Vol2 1983
Well I think thats all I have. Your distant cousins(richard) wife Yvonne Sorry it took so long to find your inquiry

Does this will list Catherine Dickson as a living daughter, one who was to receive some benefit from the estate in 1845? because two people have informed me that she died in 1830 and yet the marriage doc. in 1880 was apparently filled out by the same person who signed as Catherine Dickson and this person listed her parents' names clearly as Peter Piant and Elizabeth Creeley so she could not have been another Catherine, a niece, for example. This has become a mystery for me. I even thought of the possibility of an impostor using a deceased person's data on the marriage license! Her age is given as 65, but 68 was written first and then written over with 65. If she was born in Jan. of 1811, she would have already completed 69, in fact. I also could not find a marriage for her to a Dickson in the MO/IL area. So is she shown as being buried with the Withingtons, or just her children? Any date for that? I cannot find death records for either her or my gr.gr.grandfather, but I know they were living in New Memphis, Clinton Co., IL shortly after the marriage in Mar. 1880 in E. St. Louis.
Oh, Anonyme means anonymous, which probably indicates an infant who died without being named. Thanks, Janet --

Yvonne,
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back into this!
I would love to have a copy of the old will. I don't think you can send attachments thru this system. Can you send it directly to me? warrenlnelson@bellsouth.com
Thank you.
The St. Onge refers to the province in France where the family immigrated from. It is on the west coast of France north of Bordeaux & south of Brittany - it does not show up on contemporary maps. Dit means from in French.
The Hammons reference is unclear in your message but she has been an excellent source tho I have not been in touch with her for a long time.
Get back to me!
Joyce

Joyce and Yvonne,
I would also love to see a copy of the will to see if it clears up the mysteries around Catherine Piant/Withington/Dickson/Villemain! If she was born in 1810-1811 and married in 1824, at only 13-14, and really did not die in 1830, she had plenty of time to marry two more times before she married my gggrandfather at age 69. Just haven't found the records.
You can mail me directly at ivonhome@terra.com.br
I apppreciate it!
