Unfortunately ,I have not encountered a Marianna Pianka,my Pianka ancestors are from the region around Ostroleka in northern Poland
|
My records show her Polish name as Matka Pianka and she was born in Krakow, Poland in 1891. She married Stanislaw Banach on Sept 4, 1910. She had a brother Theodore who lived in Utica, New York and a sister Veronica Pianka Larworski of Providence, Rhode Island according to her obit.

Unfortunately, your Pianka appears to be from a different part of Poland than mine. Any other information you may run across would be appreciated. Thanks anyway

Re: Boleslawa Pianka-Zbigniew Pianka
I plan to be in Zbojna sometime this summer. My Pianka family comes from Dobrylas. It seems that the Pianka name is concentrated in the Green Kurpie area. Many from Osowice, Pianki, and Lomza. I have researched the name through the Polish Language Institute in Krakow. Aside from it's current meaning of foam, in the old Polish language it meant greenfinch, a marsh bird. Pienka meant a goldfinch. The first mention of our name was in 1494.
There are several Piankas in the Family Tree DNA data base. Ours is R1a which covers about 40% of Poles. The others in the data base are not related to us.

My great grandmother was Mariana Pianka nee Lampiska, born in 1858 in Gwala (I don't know where that is but since we are Kurpie it may be there). Her parents were Pawel and Franciszka nee Pokornicka. She died in 1936 in Dobrylas. My grandfather Alex Pianka may have lived in Syracuse between 1909 and 1913, with his future brother in law Alex Zalewski.
