Hi Pat,

Great to hear from you! I'd love to get a copy of the photo and start chatting with you about the family. I took my geneology research about as far as I could and got discouraged. Hearing from you is giving me my second wind.

Best,
Erika

Thomas Richard Phythian born 1851 in England, some places say 1849. I have a picture of him age 19 dated 1870. Quite a handsome fellow but not an easy fellow to get along with.

Sarah Yoakum born 1863 I think. She died in 1915 when my dad Charlie was 10. Grandpa Phythian remarried but had no additional children

Hi I'm Tom Phythian, 3rd son of Charlie Phythian and Mary Yeargain. Last grandson of Thomas Richard Phythian and Sarah Yoakum.

I have the photos if I can dig them out. I have found on line quite a bit about the Yoakum family going back to Matthias Yoakum [Jochim] who arrived mahattan mid 1600's. But the Phythian's are hardly to track without going to huge expenses. Aunt Lottie told me that her grandmother was a Parry and must have lived near the coast in England or Wales because she lost 5 brothers in a shipwreck.

It all kinda crazy. Out there's a pub in Liverpool called "The Phythian"

Talk more later Tom Phythian

Wow, what a lot of great new information for me! I didn't realize there was a James and Charles until I just now went back to the census record for 1910 and saw them listed on the next page. Based on info that sounded like a good fit, I traced Thomas Richard to his family in England from census records. His father was Thomas and mother Jemima Parry. Your info sounds like it confirms what I found. The children in that family were Mary, Priscilla, Ann, Jemima Emma, Thomas Richard, Jemima E (the 1st Jemima child died young), James Peter, Maria L, and Harriet E.

Tom, So you're saying that Jemima Parry had 5 brothers that died in a shipwreck?

Tom and Pat, Are you brothers? I'm updating my Family Tree software trying to keep this straight.

If I didn't mention before, my father was Thomas Albert Phythian II. His dad was Curtis Winford Phythian who was Thomas Albert Phythian's son.

It doesn't surprise me to hear that Thomas Richard was not the easiest to get along with based on what I know about my dad's relationship with his father.

My dad died in 1971 from suicide; he was born in 1939. His dad lived until 1996 I think.

Again, I'd love to see any pictures you can make available. It looks like there's a way to include attachments with these emails. I've got some photos scanned in I can share though none as old as what you have. There's a good one of my dad as a boy with his father. I think it will be interesting to see the family resemblance.

Sounds like your info about the Yoakum's is more extensive than mine. I've got George Yocum born 1777 in Kentucky married Jane Ballew.

Best,
Erika

Uncle Jim was born 19 aug 1900. He was a Detrpoit policeman. He was a WW1 veteran. One son Thomas Richard Phythian, still living I think well in his 70's. I knew Curtis. He actually lived with another cousin Ruby [Pearl daughter]. She's going to 94 soon and lives in DC, I spoke with her the other day. I'm not sure the relationship with Pat. My brothers ae Harold and Cliff, although Cliff is deceased.. My dad's name was Charlie Raymond not Charles. That caused him problems all his life.

Curtis had another son that grew up in Maryland. I think he lives in Spring TX. He's retired from the Air Force I think. He was a half brother to your dad.I just found this out a couple of years ago.

Also a George Yoakum name appears on the Dawes {Indian Records} as a Chickasaw Indianl Not sure if he's the same but it fits the time frame.

My wive's going to locate photos this weekend. She says she knows just were they are. Also would like more details on the Phythian-Parry connection in England. That's the first comformation of the story Aunt Lottle told me about. Let me gives my e-mail if you wish to connect directly'
