I am a Phypers by marriage, living in Australia. The first Phypers to come to Australia was James (Raecraft) Phypers in 1832 as a convict from Middlesex, UK. His wife was Harriet (nee Bisiker) and there were two sons; James and John. I have a lot of information from James senior to present day and am wondering if any other Phypers' out there are part of our family tree. Would love to hear from anyone

My grandfather 's name was William James Phypers. He was born to Alfred J Phypers and Hannah (Townsend) Phypers 1-4 -1863 in London England . Married Agnes Watson they imigrated to Canada somewhere around 1905 My fathers name was George Alfred Phypers , he was born in Canada in 1908 .He had 3 siblings a sister Dolly ,a sister Ivy and a Brother William His mother died when he was 3 mts. old and was raised by Dolly . Ivy and William were adopted and contact was lost with them. I have since found out that they took their Mothers maiden name of Watson and that they lived in New York. Let me know if you can find a tye of any kind.Or just say Hi because we are so few and far apart.

Hi Dan
Great to hear from you but unfortunately it doesn't look like there is a tie.
We have two William James Phypers' in our family tree. The first was born in Sydney, Australia to James and Jane (nee Bradley, originally of Middlesex, UK. James came over as a 12 yo boy in 1838 with his mother and younger brother John, following their father James snr, who had been deported in 1832 for larceny of a watch). William James married in Queensland in 1878 to Caroline Bentley and he died in Chatswood, New South Wales in 1946. They had 3 chidlren; Edith Jane (1878), Florence (1886) and Wyndam James (1886).
The second William James Phypers was born in New South Wales in 1885 to James Richard, son of John Phypers (the younger brother who came over from Middlesex). I don't have any other details of this William James.
So as you can see it doesn't look like their is any connection, unless there is a connection with the original Phypers' back in England.
The first Phypers I can trace is James (Raecraft) Phypers, born London, Middlesex, UK in 1802. I don't know if the Raecraft is his mothers maidenname or what. He was the baddie who was sent to Australia for stealing the watch. We do know that it was his second offence, for which he should really have been hung. How he managed to wangle his way to Australia instead, we don't know.
Where are you Dan, Canada?? Would love to hear from you if you think there is any link.

Judith Thanks for answering my query . Do you know if James (Racraft ) Phypers had any siblings? My great great grandfather Alfred James Phypers was the last surviving member of those who rode in the Charge of the Light Brigade He spent the remaining years of his life as a dock worker on the London docks he died in 1909.The Phypers name all seems to go back to England so we are all probably related in some way. There are not that many branches , but it seems that we were all a bit lack in keeping track of our Relations . Dan

Hi Judith,
Best of luck with your search, there is not many of us left. I live in England but working in the US hoping to find some more relatives but alas were a rare breed. I will ask my father back at home for some more details about our family. The story so far is that we originated from Holland but moved to England to dig dykes in Norfolk.
All the best
