Phibbs brothers from Ireland

I'm trying to verify information that I've heard from three people but have never seen documentation or discussion about this Phibbs Genealogy topic. Anybody have information to discuss? Here is the information (that I've heard from other researchers):

1) "I'm from the line of the three (Phibbs) brothers who left Ireland for the Eastern USA in 1753"

2) "I'm getting more information from my Grandma about the three brothers from W. Virginia. Allegedly one went to Ohio, one to the Carolina's and one to Virginia, I think."

Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Can anyone expand on this or clarify the information?

I've traced my Phibbs back to Ohio, 1830's and there is evidence that the family came from Virginia, as one of the sisters lived into the late 1800's and lists Virginia as her place of birth consistently on the census records. I have good information that my line of Phibbs are related to a Phibbs line coming out of Pennsylvania as well but not sure how. I've done extensive research on the Phibbs of Highland, Adams and Brown County, Ohio between the years of 1820-1860 if anyone is interested.

Thanks,

P.Phibbs

My interest is in New Market Twp. of Highland County, Ohio where Phibbs family settled. Maybe we can help each other?

The 3 brothers to which you are referring, from what I have been able to determine, immigrated from Sligo, Ireland around 1790. I know that William Phibbs, who was born in Sligo, Ireland, in 1762 settled in Guilford County, NC, and married a lady named Margaret Maxwell, 11 January 1796. The other 2 brothers are unknown to me as far as their names are concerned since I only have been able to confirm that 2 brothers immigrated to the U. S. with William, but I have not been able to confirm the names of the 2 brothers. If you would respond to me by using my email address I would appreciate it since it is difficult for me to constantly check the message boards. My email address is malachi3404@hotmail.com. Thank you.

Hi, I can verify some of what you are stating. In my research, I have verified that one of the brothers was William Phibbs, who came to this country, and settled in North Carolina, specifically Guilford County. The town he settled in was Browns Summitt, NC. On January 11, 1796 William Phibbs married Margaret Maxwell in Guilford County, Greensborough, NC. I found the marriage record recorded in the Guilford County Courthouse records. They had 3 sons, John born in 1796, James born in 1798, and William born in 1802.
However, I do not know William's father's name. I have not been able to confirm when William was born in Sligo, Ireland. Clearly, if William and 2 of his brothers came to the Americas in 1753, then William married late in life. I can tell you that I have come across a few researchers who state that William and his 2 brothers immigrated to the Americas around 1790, and some researchers think William was born about 1760, however, I have not been able to verify any of this information.
Also, I have run across one report that states one of his brothers' name was Richard, but I have not been able to verify this either.
If you can shed any light on any of this information, I will be most grateful. I can tell you that William Phibbs, who came to this country with his 2 brothers is definitely my great great grandfather.
I will be looking forward to your reply.
