I am trying to solve a puzzle. Our Stephenson family is from Manorhamilton, County Leitrim, Ireland, which is just a few miles from Sligo.
In 1826 Thomas Stephenson married Julia Ann Cullen (born 1808, daughter of William Cullen and Mary Ann (or Marianne) maiden name not known).
They named their third son Phibbs and that name was carried through subsequent generations.
We do not know the names of Thomas' parents, but think they may be Thomas and Isabella. The question is whether Phibbs might have been Mary Ann's maiden name, or Isabella's.
We also have Stephenson-Armstrong marriages. Elizabeth Armstrong b abt 1781 daughter of Robert, married abt 1800 William Stephenson. Would love to share information and you can email me directly at janekate@aol.com.
