My great grandmother was either Cathrine or Sarah Ann Phibbs. She married Elijah Carl.I'd like to find out about the Phibbs family. Some information says John Phibbs born in Ireland in 1765 died in 1848 in Adams County,Ohio. He had a son William b.1798 in Pa.and died in 1868 in Winchester,Ohio which is where my grandmother lived.Another daughter of John's may have been Amy who married Oliver Ashenhurst. They had at least 7 children some of which died in Texas.

I come from Blessington, Co.Wicklow, Ireland. Think Phibbs name may have originally been 'Hips' and later changed by deed poll. Origins from Phibbs in Co.Sligo.

Patrick,
Did you read my account of the Phibbs family on Oct.23 ? I really don't have the tree completed. There are two Davids in the line. One married Barbara Alexander. This David was my my great grandmother's brother. The other David was David Franklin,my grandmother's brother. He was born in 1850 so he can't be the one you're looking for.
All of these individuals came from Ohio and most lived in Winchester.

Hey Mary,
Just checking in to see if you've done any more work on the Phibbs line from Winchester. I've traced the family back to Brooke Co., Virginia. I'm still trying to attach my David Phibbs to this family. David was born about 1801 and I find several records of him in Brown Co., Ohio, One is a legal record that records that David Phibbs and William Phibbs were arrested and found not guilty for stealing hogs. Unfortunately the record does not give a relationship. Two others have him giving his oath for the marriages of two Phibbs girls, Francis and Nancy in 1831. Other than that, I haven't found any evidence that factual links him with the John Phibbs family in Winchester, Adams Co.

I would live to have the Phibbs article about them stealing hogs. Could you email it to me at

It's not an article. It's a legal document that I dug up in one of the old dusty court record books in Brown County. (And not the most flattering ancestor story to share, but they were found "Not Guilty". :-). I'll have to make a scanned copy and email it. I'd sure love to know the relationship between David and William but there's just no documentation of the relationship included in the record. If anyone every figures it out, let me know.
