I recieved a file and it has a short history on the Phebus surname. I am hopeing that someone who has been researching the Phebus name can either connect my Phebus family to Gaston or Maybe they can use this info to help in their search.. This came from the Huntington county Indiana Histories and Families.
Phebus- The name of Phebus goes back to the Greek and Means "Shining on bearing light" IT was spelled Phoebus, applied to the god Oppollo who was the God Of Light as well as music. The first Phebus on record was Gaston III (1331-1391 A.D.) He died 1391 Count of Folex From 1341 in France. The first Phebus, George I entered Providence of Maryland in Jan 1665.
I have my family file back to George I. with alot of missing info, if you are researching this family and are willing to share info please email me.. Wendy

I am researching the Phebus family out of VA and TN. I do not know if they are connected, but I think they must be at some point.

E-mail me and we can compare notes.

Thanks.

I am not sure if my line goes back to Gaston but I am at a dead end. I can trace back to 1780 to a George T. Phoebus who was born in either North Carolina or Texas????? in 1780. He died 09 Apr 1835 in TN. I think his father was Louis or Lewis. Do you have Phoebus in TN, TX, NC or GA. George T. Phoebus had 3 children that were born in Wilkes County GA. They were Leonard, Melinda and Lewis R.

Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I am also interested in George T. and family, since I keep hoping to find a link from them back to Maryland. I have a lot of Maryland info, if you'd like to share. Do you have any info on Melinda? Your post is the first I've heard of her.

Thanks!
Sherry

I am of direct descent of George Phebus, born 1645 in England. He married Anne Street (b. 1757 MD). His son, George (b. 1679) married Mary Jones. Their son, George (b. 1705) married Mary Hambley. His son, John (b. 1738) married Jemima. Their son, Lewis (b. 1780)married Mary Hibbs. Their son, Eden (b. 1814) married Susannah Brewer. Their daughter, Polly Phebus (b. 1844 IN) married Peter Penner. Their daughter, Susan (b. 1870 IN), married Richard Lunger. How might I be related to Gaston III Phebus?

Also Wendy, what is your email? I may be able to help you out. Also, could you maybe email me that file on the Phebus's (my email is violin1clarinet2@yahoo.com)? Thanks!
