Hello Paul, yes there are an awful lot of those Pheasants......I am trying to get a grip on the ones emanating from Bedford, but there are definitely other family groupings in other counties such as Derby etc. I don't know anything about those groups myself.
There is a lady in NZ who is, or was, doing a one name study of Pheasants. I could ask my aunt for a contact address if you want.
Have you tried www.familysearch.com to search for particular births, marriages or groups of siblings from known parents?

If you can find any other descendants it is helpful as they often have another piece of the puzzle or other clues to help you narrow down the search a bit.
The 1881 census is helpful too .
One of my favourite sites has been FreeBMD where you can look up all sorts of info. The list of Pheasants gets longer each time they update it, but it isn't as bad as say, the Smiths must be. Anyway have fun !

Surnames: Thornhill
Hello Paul, I have just been browsing the message boards, when I found your message. Of interest, was the mention of Thornhill in the surname box. I am currious as to how you are connected with the Thornhill surname?

Thanks
Philip

My grandmother was Clarissa Grant Pheasant, born about 1864 in Center County, PA. She married Cornelius King Kuhn, but I don't know when they got married or where. Cornelius was born in Lancaster County, PA and they settled in Altoona, PA where they had three children, the earliest being born in 1894. Does anyone know of this Pheasant family? thanks

Surnames: Pheasant, Suatt
Hi there,
a search on FreeBMD shows a possible marriage between Alfred James Pheasant and Sarah Ann Suatt in the June quarter of 1869 in Newington.
This could have been a cousin marriage if you are right about Ann Pheasant marrying Richard Suatt in the previous generation.
FreeBMD only goes back as far as 1837 I think although I would have thought that would be early enough to catch a marriage of someone born 1822.
There is a marriage of a Richard Suatt in 1839 but the possible female partners listed do not include any Ann Pheasants! (3 Elizabeths and an Esther, of widely differing surnames)
Also: there is a death of Richard Suatt, Dec 1874, aged 54 at St Saviour, Vol 1d page 113, and an Annie Suatt, aged 80 in 1901, Vol 1d, page 371, at Wandsworth. These are the only ones of these names in FreeBMD and they are about the right age. You could apply for the death certs and follow back that way.
Also try the 1881 English Census- if Annie was still alive in 1901 she should be on there somewhere!

I just read a post about 2 Pheasant men. I have Pheasant in my family tree...Monroe Pheasant, who is the son of Joseph Pheasant and most likely brother to the younger Joe Pheasant.
