The first Genest came over from La Rochelle
in 1669 as a member of the Carignan Regiment.
His name was Jacques Genest. If you have ever
visited Isle D'Orleans you would have knowledge of the Maison Mauvide-Genest, a museum and house of one of our ancestors. The original Genest family landed there and future generations left and settled in Nicolet, near Quebec City. My ancesters on both sides of my mother's and father's both arrived around the same time and settled on opposite sides of the St. Lawrence. Thirteen generations later, here I am.
