I am looking for information reguarding Emilie Phaneuf who married Amable Gerard. My gggrandmother Edwidge Gerard was married to Pierre Litno. Pierre and his brother Joseph were blacksmiths in Belchertown, Mass. Their father was Antoine Litno. Emilie's father was Abel? Phaneuf. This lineage goes back to Mathias Farnsworth, later Phaneuf, and the Roy family which starts with Emilie and goes back to England.

Thank you for the information, Pete. Do you know how Emilie is related to Claude Mathias Phaneuf? He was taken captive in an indian raid from Groton, Mass. to Canada where he was adopted into a french family and his name was changed from Farnsworth to Phaneuf. There is a connection also to the Roy Family that seems to start with Emilie and goes back to England with the Farnsworths in 1522.

Hi, Emelie Phaneuf was the great-great-granddaughter of Mathias Farnsworth III who became Claude Mathias Fanef
As far as Roy, the only connection I see at this time is Emelie's sister, Marie Phaneuf, married Jean-Baptiste Roi at St-Cesaire on 8 Feb 1831.
My wife is Yvonne Phaneuf, she is the 6th great grandaughter of Claude Mathias and the second cousin, four times removed of Emelie Phaneuf. Yvonne's family came from L'Acadie, St Jean to Champlain, NY to Ludlow, MA Hope this helps.

Pete, Thank you so much. Emilie Phaneuf was the mother of my ggreat grandmother Edwidge Girard who married Peter Litno. This has been a great break through for me as I couldn't seem to go beyond Peter H. Litno and Edwidge. I now would like to find out based on a story that has been circulated through Peter and Edwidge's family that there is a native connection. I have connected with 2 cousins just of late whose grandmothers were sisters to my great grandmother Julia Litno, daughter of Peter and Edwidge Litno. I don't know if you can help me out. Ginny

My understanding is that you want evidences about native connection between Edwidge Girard and Emilie Phaneuf?
Well, although I don't have full proof of this connection, I think the evidences I collected through communication with distant cousins, over genealogy websites and at my University are strong enough. Here is how I made the connection last summer (2010):
1) From the Massachusetts Marriages 1695-1910: Peter H Litino married Edwidge Jerard on 06 Feb 1854 in Palmer, Hampden, Massachusetts. The father of Edwidge is Abel Jerard, and she was 18 (she was born then in 1836). I believe it is quite possible that Abel is the result of French to English transformation of Amable.
2) Looking for relatives of Pierre Letourneau (Peter H Litno) and Edwidge Girard, I did some research on their children. I found that the godfather/godmother of Pierre-George Letourneau baptised on 27 nov 1864 at Farnham (St-Romuald), Que, were Amable Girard and Emilie Phaneuf.
3) I found that this couple, Amable Girard and Emilie Phaneuf, had a daughter named Edwige baptised on 04 Aug 1835 at St-Cesaire, Que and born the day before. This date is very close to what we can read on the 1901 Canada census which is 7 aug 1834. Note that this child is misidentified as George Girard (Gerard) in some public family trees and on the Ancestry.com search site. It is definitely not a son because on the baptism record, we can readily read "nee", the feminine form for born in French.
4) On the Canada census of 1881, in the same house where the Peter H Litno’s family lived, appears Emily “Gerry”, age 75. I guess she is Emilie Girard (Phaneuf). Note that she is still listed as married and not widow, since Amable Girard died only on 01 Nov 1885 (Farnham, St-Romuald, Quebec, Canada). I don't know where Amable was in 1881.
5) From another daughter of Pierre Letourneau (Peter H Litno) and Edwidge Girard's birth record, I found that the godmother of Marie Letourneau (born in 1867, Dunham, Ste-Croix, Que) was Marie-Emilie Girard, a daughter of Amable Girard and Emilie Phaneuf. Marie Letourneau is my 2nd great grandmother.
Hope this help
