Re: Phaire family in Ireland
We might have a connection. Just learned that Colonel Robert Phaire of Cromwell's army might be part of my family lineage. Many generations later, my family connection is Joseph D. Phayer and Mary Murphy who came to USA prior to 1849; married in NY in 1849, first child born in NY, then they moved and settled in Alton, Illinois. If this makes any connections for you, please respond. What is your connection to Robert Phaire? My email address is kathnel@msn.com. Thanks.

Re: Phaire family in Ireland
A gentleman by the name of Smith, but with connections to the name Phair, contacted me some years ago as part of his research into the family name Phair. He led me to believe that my surname came from the lineage that led back to Col Robert Phaire - Regicide. Somewhere along the way the e was omitted for convenience (or someone could not spell !). From the information he supplied me with the connection was only tenuous with no firm connection.
I have seen historic reference to Col Phaire being involved in the murder of Charles 1, in 1647 I believe.
I visit Ireland regularly as my father was born in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, N Ireland.
I commisioned a company to do research into the family name Phair some years ago but they came up against the problem of destroyed records during the uprising of 1916.

Re: Phaire family in Ireland
John, I think my ancestry might be from that same area. That is the tradition anyway but no more than that. His name was James Phair b. about 1818. Married Mary Foster in Ontario Canada June 8 1839. The marriage license show a signature of James Phair Sen. any my James as James Phair Jun. I'm hoping to find some more information. Thanks for any info you may have. Sue Phair Bybee

Re: Phaire family in Ireland
Hi Sue Gee whizz - I posted my message 9 years ago almost to the day and here you are with a reply. Welcome non-the-less. My great grandfather was an Edward Phair who was born in 1826. Thats all I have I am afraid. It would certainly put them in the same ball park age wise. He was resident in the townland of Druminiskill which is near Enniskillen in Co Fermanagh and is buried (so I believe) in the local church of that area. I have no record of his siblings and any info I do have has come courtesy of people in Australia doing geneaology research. A Family by the name of Burleigh - Edward married an Anne Burleigh. They subsequently had about 8 children and one of them was named James which may be some form of indicator. The youngest was my grandfather Robert Phair who was born in 1873. Hope this helps. Who knows we may well be related.
Have a great Xmas and 2011.

Re: Phaire family in Ireland
A Richard PHAIR died in Maffra, Victoria (Australia) in 1938 Reg'd #18500, aged 75, his parents recorded in the index as Edward PHAIR & Ann BURLEIGH. It appears that he married in Victoria, in 1889, Jane WILLIS; they had issue, including a son named James Burleigh PHAIR, who died at Cambrian Hills, Victoria, in 1958 #7522, aged 57. Another Richard PHAIR, perhaps another son, married in Vic, in 1914, Mary Margaret MATTHEWS (she died in Caulfield, Vic, 1960, aged 69); they had a son named Richard Willis PHAIR, who died in Victoria in 1982 #28226, aged 67; and another named Robert PHAIR, who died in Tatura, Vic, 1921 #7781, age not recorded. Regards, Chris PIGOTT, Potts Point, N.S.W.
