Looking for a solid link between FOUTS and PFOUTZ. I have a George Fouts(z) b. 1806, Carrolton, OH. No prior reference to FOUTS surname.

Pfautz, Pfoutz, Foutz, Fouts

In the Pennsylvania Dutch Country, Lancaster County, PA, the different spellings have been used for many years. The original German spelling is PFAUTZ. My family has used these 4 spellings and I can find no reason for the change within the family.

I also descend from Hans Michael, whose wife was Ursula Muehlenhauser. E-mail me... I'm happy to swap info! Hans and Ursula's son Johannes Michael married twice... second wife was Anna Marie Klein... their son David (who spelled the name Pfoutz) married Anna Kurtz; THEIR son Johnathon (who spelled it Pfouts!) married Susannah Fronk; their son Miller (still Pfouts) married Lucy Jane Tarr; their daughter Laura Mable married Albert Benson Wixon... whose daughter, Alma, is my paternal grandmother.

Hi Cheryl: I am decended from Hans Michael through his son Hans Michael, Jr. and Catherine Neff. Their son John Pfoutz and Mary Mohler. Their daughter, Susanna, married John Sennett. John and Susanna were my GGrandparents. I went to Lancaster last year on a research trip. Didn't know much about the Pfoutz until then. Would love to hear from you and trade info. Love, Glynn

T.A., I'm told the inablility to read/write resulted in a variety of name spellings for the name. My line originated as Pfautz, graduated to Pfoutz, then Pfouts. Even in
my 2G grandfather's generation, he and his siblings used some diff. spellings, incl. Pfouts, Fouts and Foutz. Do you have any ancestors for your George? I have a George
in my line, but his dates are about 1754-11/1833. His two wives were Anne Eagler and Sarah Woodrow. Holler if these are familiar!
