I never dreamed there were so many Pfost's out there! I guess I am related to most of you. I have traced my line back to George Washington Pfost whom Doris Poinsett sort of has a question mark about. I would love to put him in his correct place! I live in Charleston, WV, so near to where Valentin settled in America. I have been working on genealogy for two years, off and on. I do have a copy of Doris Poinsett's book. If anyone has any information on George Washington Pfost please let me know.

YOU MENTIONED IN YOUR NOTE THAT YOU LIVE NOT TO FAR FROM WHERE VALENTINE PFOST SETTLED. IS THERE ANY CHANCE THAT YOU MIGHT KNOW WHERE HE CAME FROM(ORIGINALLY FROM GERMANY, WE THINK) AND ALSO WOULD YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION REGARDING A FIRST WIFE THAT HE MAY HAVE LEFT IN GERMANY? WE KNOW THAT HE MARRIED A BARBARA DEVLIN ONCE HE WAS THERE IN WV BUT SUSPECT THAT HE MAY HAVE HAD CHILDREN BY A FIRST MARRIAGE. WE COME FROM A GEORGE PFOST/ELIZABETH PETERSON LINE. YOU ALSO MENTION DORIS POINSETT'S BOOK, THIS IS WHERE WE FOUND THE INFORMATION SUGGESTING THAT VALENTINE MAY HAVE BEEN MARRIED BEFORE BUT IT WOULD BE GREAT TO GET SOME MORE INFORMATION ON THAT POSSIBLILITY, ANY NEWS YOU HAVE WOULD BE WELCOME. THANKS HEIDI

Just for the record, which is everything in the case of geneaology, :)...Valentin & Barbara did not have a son named George. George W. Pfost was a grandson, the son of Valentin's son Isaac & his wife Elizabeth Foglesong Pfost. George Washington Pfost married Mariah Jane Fisher and had nine children-Joseph Earl,Nora Mae,Virgil Conrad,Ina,Mary Katherine,Cora Edna,Elijah Franklin,George Clarence ( my grandfather) and Roy Aldo, all of whom were the fourth generation of Valentin's family. Also being erroneously ( and consistently) attributed to Valentin & Barbara as children are Martin ( no such child of theirs, but they DID have a daughter named Martha, whose German name was Marte, being mistakenly interpreted by many researchers as Martin) and Jacob, who was actually their son-in-law and executor of Valentin's will ( Jacob Bergdall ).
I take this information directly from documents prepared by Doris Poinsett, the noted author of a book on my family heritage. She corresponded with my late Aunt Reva extensively and I am very fortunate to have those documents, they are invaluable !~
Hope this helps your research; I well understand how deeply frustrating it is to try and get the information right when so many researchers here are posting incorrect "data" about Valentin.
Best Regards, your distant relative Susan Pfost Franco Daughter of Jewell C. Pfost & Madge Cantrell Harding Pfost
